Can you post the backup job settings you are using?
Also, is the folder shared in Windows? Are you trying to use a microsoft logon on the NAS or a local windows account?

Hello,
yes, the folder is shared in windows and i have access to it. I do the test connection from the Netgear and it says it´s ok.
I´ll post the details of the backup this afternoon.
The logon is done with a user of the domain that is an administrator account of the pc.
Thanks and regards.

The host should be //ALFONSO02.anci.local (per the help). Note the direction of the //, it is opposite the windows convention. You could also try //ipaddress.
Backing up user profiles this way doesn't usually work well. Though public might be ok.

Hello,
if i change to "//ALFONSO02.anci.local" and save the task, the "//" is removed by the netgear so it keeps "ALFONSO02.anci.local".
I have the same problem to backup shared folders out of the profile, but only with Vista, not with Windows 7.
I´m interested in using netgear tool but it looks like if something is wrong when trying to backup Vista pc´s.
Thanks and regards.

I think you are correct in thinking that the issue is backing up the profile with Vista. Though you might want to confirm that.
Can you create a test share on a Vista machine, that is not part of the profile?

Hello,
i did the test, trying to backup a folder out of the profile in Vista and i get the same error..
Folder is shared and i have access to it but not from Netgear.

Did you try both IP address and system name?
- viperhcOct 20, 2015Aspirant
yes, and none of them worked.
I have tried to share Documents folder again and now i was able to backup 24 files but not the other ones in the folder. Maybe there is a problem with Vista and the fw of the Netgear?

What happens if you drag/drop the files to the NAS
- viperhcOct 27, 2015Aspirant
you mean using windows explorer and trying to move files from the shared folder in the computer to the shared folder in the NAS?
- viperhcOct 27, 2015Aspirant
i have tried and it works.
- viperhcNov 02, 2015Aspirant
yes it works directly with drag/drop but fails using the task of the Netgear

(a) drag/drop from documents to the NAS share works,
(b) NAS windows backup from \\pcname\documents to that same NAS share fails to copy everything.
The NAS backup job in (b) is using the same PC logon/password as (a)?

Yes,
same user and password. User is administrator in the pc.

This is a puzzle. Do you have another PC? If so, try accessing the share from it, and see if you can do the copy.
My own approach for PC backup is to run the backup job on the PC, and write to the NAS. There are several tools you can use (I happen to use Acronis TrueImage). That might be one practical way to move forward.
