Thank you mdgm for your time and effort, unfortunately nothing worked and the story ended with me paying 60 bucks for a software to recover the data. Which worked fortunately ;)
It would help tremendously if you could post me the link for how to USB recovery boot the Ultra 2. I've spent hours now searching for any instructions for my specific NAS without luck. The official documentation on the netgear site is wrong:
Although the site states that it is for RNDU2220 Ultra 2, my NAS neither has a LCD display nor is it sparc, when I press the Powerbutton for 20 sec all the box does is startup and shutdown again after 5 seconds :(
The instructions for the Ultra 2 are the same as for the NVX/Pro/2100. That KB article links to those instructions.
