Need help port forwarding for XBox One remote Streaming
- Jan 10, 2016
Hi @varxtis,
You should input them in the field for External Starting Port and External Ending Port. You will need to forward them individually except for the range of 49000-65000. The steps are as follows.
1. Create a Service Name (It could be anything but you may not be able to use the same service name twice. Ex. XBOX1, XBOX2, and so on.)
2. Select the service type (TCP, UDP, or Both)
3. Input 5050 for both External Starting Port and External Ending Port.
4. Select the IP address of your XBOX.
5. Select Apply.
6. Do the same for the other port numbers. For the range, use 49000 for the External Starting Port and use 65000 for the External Ending Port.

I couldn't figure out how to answer that question, because the only thing I got from Netgear with the Router was a disk with the Genie software, whatever kind it is.
However, the problem seems to have been minimized: I disconnected the router completely, then turned it on again and it is picking up the other devices when I make it re-scan. I hope in future it will automatically scan when the it opens.
Thanks for trying to help.
Have you tried creating rules for these ports just as you did for the PPTP?
When creating rules, I ignore the drop down menu and create everything as a "Custom Rule". Give it a cool name, enter the port, select TCP and/or UDP.
Well, that is actually the problem. The custom rule only allows you to select ports in Protocol 6 (TCP) and Protocol 17 (UDP). IPSec uses Protocol 50 (ESP) and Protocol 51 (AH).
Here is a nice summary:
https://www.iana.org/assignments/protocol-numbers/protocol-numbers.xhtml
I saw the dropdown had a pre-defined rule for PPTP, which can be config'd using the custom rules. If the custom rules won't allow you to configure IPsec, it would be nice if it was included in the pre-defined dropdown.
Of course, you are correct. (I now have a Dunce Cap for every day of the week!) Looks like you are stuck with either PPTP on the RAS or OpenVPN (on the Orbi itself). I have been very happy with OpenVPN on my Orbi.
Perhaps you could hack at the iptables. I know that Voxel's custom firmware for the RBR50 allows customizing iptables. (I am also happy with this firmware. Probably fat and dumb as well.)
