Cannot access NAS via Webdav

I'm running a EEEpc701 with Linux Mint v9, and would like to access one of the shares on my ReadyNAS NV+ (Journo) via Webdav.

- I have enabled HTTPS and Webdav in Frontview. I have also regenerated an SSL key in Frontview, as suggested in the How-to article.

- Port 443 has been forwarded to the NAS (which has a fixed iP address of course)

I can access the share in a browser as follows
- https://vokes.myphotos.cc/journo
- login name - admin
- password - well I won't mention the password - but the browser established the HTTPS session without a problem!

On my laptop I've tried the following method

- in the terminal; sudo /usr/bin/fusedav -u admin -p <password> http://vokes.myphotos.cc/Journo /home/macburp/Journo . If I try to access the Journo folder in Thunar or another terminal window, I get 'Permission denied'.

- in Gigolo: I set up a bookmark to access the share via a secure Webdav session. Once this session starts up, Gigolo should call the Keyring programme to allow me to enter the password and log in (this works for another site I access via Gigolo using FTP). The error message here was 'Connecting to davs://admin@vokes.myphotos.cc/Journo failed. HTTP error: connection terminated unexpectedly'

Is there anything else I need to install on the NAS to get Webdav working? Bit stumped.

Thanks.

Does a simple WebDAV client like cadaver work?
  • I had a go with cadaver. I presume that cadaver should ask me for username and password, but I don't get that far - the response to

    cadaver http://vokes.myphotos.cc/Journo

    is as follows:

    Could not open collection:
    302 Found
    dav:/Journo/?

    Something is not right.

You should be getting something like this:

    cadaver http://10.20.0.221/backup
Authentication required for My Shares on server `10.20.0.221':
    Username: myuser
    Password:
    dav:/backup/>

A couple of things to try:

    1. Try it from your local network if you have been trying it remotely.

    2. Try removing all HTTP access restrictions from the share.
