Deleting iSCSI LUN did not free my disk space
Hello,
I am experiecing the same issue as described in the two previous posts below.
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=77500
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=77864
I created some iSCSI LUN's for testing, i renamed and resized them, and then i deleted some of them again. Now the space i used for this is not free.
I guess i created 3 or 4 LUN's on 1 TB all togheter.
It's been 24 h, I also did a scrub, defrag and reboot to if it helped.
I have a ReadyNAS 104 (Serial <REMOVED BY MODERATOR>) and running Firmware 6.1.9.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHow much data is on your NAS?
Perhaps backup your data, do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) and restore your data from backup. - gesteenAspirantThank you for your feedback mdgm.
I have about 2,5 TB on my NAS. I might be able to find somewhere to temporary store my files to do a system restore, if not i have to buy a spare disk. But only if nothing else works.
I would realy like to find out why it's happening and why, and maybe find a solution.
I plan to use the iSCSI LUN, and i need to be able to create and delete without this beeing a problem.
Did you find a solution regarding the other two posts with the same issue? I guess this is not normaly a problem on this NAS? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredcan you send me your logs (see the link in my sig)?
- gesteenAspirantThey are sent:)
I deleted the last iSCSI share on the NAS now aswell, so no iSCSI LUN's are existing on my NAS.
Still same problem. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhen did you start observing this problem? Since the upgrade to 6.1.9 or before?
On an unrelated matter, I see you are using WD Green disks. It appears the Load Cycle Count is rising rapidly on these disks.
I see you last did a factory default on 6.0.0. - gesteenAspirantI have only created iSCSI shares on 6.1.9, so I dont know if the problem was there on earlier versions.
I got hold of some spare disk's now so i can preform a factory reset after i have copied everything.
After i have done that i will try to create a iSCSI LUN and see if the problem is still there.
About the load cycle count. I can see et is very high. I found this article regardig WD disk's http://www.timoroso.com/journal/9
Are you familliar with a way to use “wdidle3” on the RN104? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredhttp://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=429902#p429902
Would suggest running that before the factory, but after backing up your data. - gesteenAspirantI have now preformed the factory reset (and fixed the LCC issue).
After the factory reset i created a 10 GB iSCSI LUN and deleted it again. I still have the same problem. The 10 GB is still showed as used space on my NAS aafter I deleted it.
I found a workaround. If i connect WinSCP to the NAS and go to "Volume name"/.purge i can find my 10 GB share there, i can manually delete the files and the space is freed.
Will this action have any other consecenses on the NAS?
Now i worry if my disks arte going to break down. I can see the are only good for 300 000 LCC, and my disks passed that already. The idle3-tools stoped the rappid LCC increase. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredMake sure you backup your important data regularly.
- gesteenAspirantYes :)
And thank you for your help.
