NV+ and WD TV Live woes
I finally got around to replacing my f-ugly Sumvision media player with a shiny new WD TV Live.
First issue was that the ReadyNAS didn't show up when it looked for CIF shares. Now I've had this problem before, on the sumvision and my PC I need to use the IP address - I swear the name used to work, but randomly stopped a long time ago.
My assumption is that this is a Netbios issue, but damned if I can work it out. Turned WINS on, on the ReadyNas and directed my router to the readynas on the offchance - no dice. Anyway stupid WD doesn't seem to accept an IP, so that's CIF stuffed.
Next step was an attempt to use NFS. Share with my media is open with no password (called Share). Turned on NFS. Set it to default to read/write. Share 'c_share' appears on the WD, I click on it and the WD just completely locks up and hangs indefinitely. Had a bit more of a playaround - seemingly I can browser folders, but as soon as I click on something with a file in, it locks.
May be a file permissions issue - seemingly in the 'correct' username/group the fields were populated with 'admin'. Seemed a little strange, I assumed 'Share' would be populated there. Anyway. Populated fields with Share/nogroup and pressed the updated button. Machine whirred away for a while, then told me it had fixed the files ownership. No functional change and GUI still defaults to admin/admin.
OK, maybe the whole share is stuffed. I create a new share 'media' with no password. Turn on NFS (turn it off on the share 'Share'), set it to default read/write. Via CIFS on PC, copy stuff across between the shares. Look on the WD, it sees 'c_media' - but it still shows old NFS I've just turned off, 'c_Share'.. I click on either - it locks up again.
Only thing I've actually got to work is Read DNLA - but this bizarrely only seems to show contents of some of the shares I've added (and even then seems a bit strange in behaviour), so I'd much prefer to switch to CIFS or NFS.
I think something is a bit 'wrong' with the ReadyNas. I was hoping there was some way of nuking it back to factory, whilst retaining the data - but can't see anything. Any advice on this, or workarounds, i.e.
1) Fix Netbios?
2) Get WD to recognize an IP (OK, maybe wrong forum for that)?
3) Fix NFS?
My current plan is just to migrate everything from the old share to the new one and then nuke the old one, on the off-chance the 'issue' lies within that.
Oh another strange thing was I actually created, a new share, put files in it, deleted it, created a new one with the same name - and the files were still there. Not sure if this is an error, of just a safety mechanism in case you delete a share by accident.

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
Fixed.
Not entirely sure what it was that resolved the issue.
1) Disabled WINS on ReadyNAS and pointer to it on my router.
2) Turned DHCP back on, on my ReadyNAS
3) Set static IP for NV+ on the router, based on MAC
4) Altered range of router's DHCP pool to include the static IP for the NV+ (i.e. previously I had a pool I'd assign static on devices and range above for DHCP where I didn't care).
Rebooted everything and now the WD TV sees the CIF share. NFS still locks it up, but I can live without that.

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
Oh, incidentally, I managed to get all the permissions re-set on my original share last night. Did same thing as before, but this time it 'took'. Still didn't help with the NFS.

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
I just picked up a WDTV Live and I too am having issues. My WDTV Live won't see all the files on my NAS. And I can lock it up on the same videos/c_media browsing as you. And every time I turn around the unit doesn't see my NAS and I have to restart my router. It was perfect the first day, and a headache the next 3.

Have you tried the latest ReadyDLNA?: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=27946

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
I'll give the updated DNLA a go (just to see if it's better). I had an OK experience with it before, just a bit annoying trying to work out if a file in a 'watched' folder had been detected or not.
CIFS is still working perfectly for me - basically as soon as the WDTV detected the name of my NAS on the network, it's been faultless.
Gave NFS another go - it still just locks.

With NFS what's the thread count like? Have you tried toggling the advanced sync mode?

I'm completely out of my depth here 🙂
I turned on NFS (tried with both the 1 default thread count and 10 just to see if that made a difference).
When I added it to shared I tried both advanced and 'non-advanced' modes.
Only other thing I attempted was adding the IP of the WDTV to the root-privs option.
This was all completely non-scientific, random fiddling, in the hope that I'd get a different result.. Unfortunately I didn't.

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
I think you've tried just about everything for NFS. The only thing left if you do want to use that would be to find out what the options in the /etc/exports file WD recommends.

Re: NV+ and WD TV Live woes
I still have issues with the new readydnla. The wdtv live will see a few folders, but it all. The. It will only see aces movies. Then after navigating back and forth movies and folders will disappear. Then movies suddenly won't play. It's like a communication issue and I'm losing my patience.
Router is my cable company's so I can't really adjust that. Any ideas?
