There are two issues.  One is that Netgear's repository for 6.10.8 is broken.  You can resolve that by upgrading to 6.10.9.

The other is that the version of linux that the NAS uses (Debian 8 - "Jessie") was recently deprecated by the Debian folks.  That requires a couple of changes that can only be made with ssh. See the post here:

Note the reference to 6.10.8 in the patch would need to be changed to 6.10.9 (assuming you upgrade).

FWIW, many of the apps are old, and Netgear doesn't support them.  Personally I use an always-on PC for apps, with the NAS data volume mapped to a drive letter.
