Need help configuring rsync back from ReadyNAS to Synology
I've got a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 as a media storage center, and I've purchased a much larger Synology DiskStation to use as a backup destination for the ReadyNAS.
I'm having trouble getting the settings right for an rsync backup. I keep getting an error message of "Error connecting to [hostname]" when I hit the "Test connection" button on selecting a backup destination.
Here are the steps I've tried:
• In FrontView > Shares > Share Listing > Rsync, have enabled Read/Write as Default Access to the two Shares I want to back up. I've experimented with adding a name (and IP address) to "Hosts allowed access" field, and have also tried both setting an rsync password and leaving it blank.
• In FrontView > Backup> Adda a New Backup Job, I have:
— Selected "Select this ReadyNAS or remote" in Step 1.
— Selected "Remove: Rsync Server" in Step 2.
I have ensured that my Synology DiskStation has been activated as an Rsync server (Control Panel > Network Backup > Enable Network Backup Service > Rsync Backup Mode is checked).
This is where I'm having trouble. No matter what I enter into FrontView's Host, Path, and Login fields in Step 2, I cannot make a successful connection to the DiskStation (both ReadyNAS and DiskStation are on the same LAN/subnet). I've tried entering the full path to the DiskStation ([computer name]/Volumes/DiskStation), the specific destination directory I want for the ReadyNAS backup ([computer name]/Volumes/DiskStation/Backup/ReadyNAS), the IP address for the DiskStation (tried in both the Host field and the Path field separately), and every other combination I can think of.
I've also tried leaving the login/password fields blank, and using the admin name/password I use to log in to the Synology. Same error every time.
Hoping this is just a basic syntax error, and I'm just not understanding the proper name/paths to put into the Host, Path, and/or login fields. Everything seems to be enabled properly in the software for the ReadyNAS and Synology.
Any help appreciated.

Put the IP address of the Synology NAS in the host field and the sharename in the path (or a folder within the share e.g. "sharename/foldername")
Ensure that Rsync is enabled on the Synology and that you've enabled Rsync access for the relevant share (if Rsync is enabled on a share by share basis on the Synology. I don't know as I don't have one).
Running the backup job from the ReadyNAS you do not need the Rsync service enabled on the ReadyNAS. Only the Remote: Rsync server, needs the Rsync service enabled.
