here are the details. front screen on the NAS reads the correct disk usage but web screen shows 0% usage.
Ok. So SMB/CIFS has stopped working and Frontview is thinking you have 8 MB disks with a 0 MB volume. DLNA still functions.
Something looks very wrong.
- Can you download the log zip file? (Don't post it here, but it'd be good to have it).
- Is SSH enabled on the NAS?
- Do you have a backup of the files?

The data volume is completely full (which isn't a good idea), and the volume scan failure means there is some corruption of the file system. So there likely is some data loss - hopefully not much.
Try booting the system w/o the volume check. Instructions for that are on pages 23-24 of your hardware manual here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/Duov1_NV+v1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf
If this works, then immediately back up your data - don't delay, and don't try to add or delete any files on the NAS. The fastest way to back up the data is over an ethernet connection. You can use drag-and-drop to a USB drive connected to your PC, or a utility that includes verification of the copy (I believe teracopy will do that). If you don't have a USB drive, start by copying the most important files to your PC (for instance, any personal photos or videos that can't be replaced).

There's a download option on the logs page in frontview.
starbase804 wrote:- Is SSH enabled on the NAS? - No Idea.
Then it's likely not. You'd have had to install a special add-on to enable it.
starbase804 wrote:- Do you have a backup of the files? - No.
Then the files are at risk. If we get through this, I recommend putting a backup plan in place.
Are you seeing shares on the shares page? If you are, then it might be possible to do a backup of your data (connecting an NTFS formatted USB drive to the NAS, and creating a backup job in frontview).

I don't believe USB recovery is a good idea right now, though I'd defer to Netgear support on that. I don't know the cause of the OS Index issue, but I'm not seeing any indication in your symptoms that suggests the problem is in the flash memory. It might be the OS partition on the disks, or it might be some other system failure.
But it sounds like you have rebooted the NAS (since you couldn't have tried the USB recovery w/o that). Is that the case? If so, did you check if DLNA was still working after the reboot?
On the main problem - one option is to use paid support (via my.netgear.com). If data recovery is needed it would be expensive, but it is likely that they can solve your problem w/o that (since the data still seems to be there).

It's possible that the OS partition is also full. But try booting with the option to skip the volume check next. The goal now is to extract the data, so you don't lose it.
