Ready NAS 102 upgrade question

Hi Folks,

Owned this little two bay NAS for  several years now.  It's been great.  In fact, I plan to move to a four bay ReadyNAS.  Question is, and it may be a dumb one, is it possible to just move the drives to the new unit?  Or  will they have to be formatted for the new model?

  • You can move the disks to a new OS-6 readynas (keeping it powered down).  There won't be any data loss, and settings should all be preserved.

The only caveat is that if you switch to an x86 NAS (RN400 - RN600), then you should uninstall your apps before you migrate, since platform-specific apps (like plex) won't migrate seamlessly from Arm (RN100, RN200) to Intel.

Another option is to get new disks for the new NAS, and use the RN102 for backup.
