what do you mean by a soft link in the original location. I am not sure what that means. And what does that soft link do.
A soft link (also called a symbolic link) is a bit like a short cut. It points to the real file (or folder), and linux will follow it automatically to get to the actual target. So the app will still find and access the database using the same path it did before, but the database itself will actually be in a different location.

Ahh, I didn't see your URL reference in the response on my phone. I found the way to do it via WinSCP - https://winscp.net/eng/docs/ui_symlink
I'll give it a try. Hopefully the app still works after modifying its origin.

Meh, doesn't appear to be an option. You cannot turn the app OFF so renaming the original folder to move the data and then replace it with a shortcut I am receiving access denied.
So I suspect at this point I have to figure out how to dump/backup the database on a manual bases.
I saw a post of someone saying they had to do this:
mysqldump baika > '/volume_name/share_name/BaikalDump.sql'
but of course where is this done? the app by default is at /apps/baikal/
so do I just run mysqldump baika > '/apps/baikal/baikaldump.sql' ? and if so, how do I go about doing this with a ReadyNAS app.
