Some User Shares Read Only Access
Hi All,
So it seems that my ReadyNAS Ultra, 6 is giving me some permission issues. My personal share will not let me create new folders or add files to it. I am a MAC user and connection with AFP or CIFS doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. I tried with creating a folder on my share from a windows machine as well with the same results. "You do not have the proper permissions to perform this action" is basically what I get.
I can connect to the NAS shares with the Admin account and I am able to create folders in my personal share and move files as I should be. I have tried logging into a windows machine and modifying the user permissions on the share but I get an error as well saying this can't be done.
Now I want to throw this out there too.. I have some external users that connect to my NAS via the web and they reported to me that they could get in because they couldn't be authenticated. I reset their password but that didn't seem to help. I deleted and recreated their account with the exact information and that seemed to fix their issues.
Another issue I just noticed is that when I try to complete a full Time Machine back-up (about 230GB) of my mac to the NAS, when the size gets about 20+ the NAS freaks out and says I have a failed drive. The first time I tried the back-up it was Drive 1, the second attempt it was Drive 3. I corrected both drives after I recovered from a minor heart attack,(lol) by removing/re-adding and recycling the NAS.
I spoke with ReadyNAS support and they suggested that I do a reinstall of the OS incase there were some corrupt files. I did attempt this however, the permission issue is still present, so I haven't tried the time machine back-up.
I do not have SSH enabled.
Ok so any thoughts?

- evan2NETGEAR ExpertOpen Advanced Share Permission in Advanced Options of your share, and select "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems"
if you hope the new file or folder's permission is same with CISF shares, please select "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders" in Advanced CIFS Permission. - arizonaskys2AspirantHey Evan,
Thanks for the reply, will that work even on users private home shares? it seems to be just my personal home share that is created when I created my users profile on the NAS. I have created a couple test profiles and connected to the NAS with them from my MAC over CIFS and everything works as expected.
Thanks!
B - evan2NETGEAR ExpertNo, these two items is only change sub folder's permissions in shares to same with your share, they don't change your home share's permissions.
- arizonaskys2AspirantOk.. yea the home share is where the problem is. It's kinda driving me nuts not being able to fix it. :)
