Backing up configuration OS6
Hi all,
I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a ReadyNAS 526X which I am setting up for somebody else... However, it seems the drives will not arrive for a few more days. My ultimate intention is to setup 4 drives in a flex-raid (raid-6) configuration for dual redundancy.
When the unit arrives I am considering booting the unit with a single spare hard drive I have kicking around just so I can setup the unit and then backup the configuration. When the new drives arrive, I can swap these over and potentially restore the configuration.
My question is, what does the backup configuration include??? Does it really include everything? Does it setup the custom shares you had configured when restored?
I assume the volume / raid configuration is not part of this?

The configuration doesn't include eveything (though it does include the shares). For instance it doesn't include the maintenance schedule.
There's a response from Netgear in the forums somewhere on what it does include, but I'm not seeing it right now.
I suggest you also capture the configuration info (maybe with screen shots, or just create a document as you go), and not depend on the config backup file.
BTW, I just received a 526X. I'm still kicking the tires on it, but it's a very nice machine. Great build quality and plenty of horsepower. I'm still looking for a good way to benchmark it's performance (so far it just keeps up with my gigabit connection). If I can find an affordable 10 gbe PC NIC, I'll probably get one.
- steveoelliottLuminaryThanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to playing with mine. When you say the maintenance schedule what do you mean? I'm not familiar with OS6 so I've got some playing around to do with that too. I'll probably just wait till the drive turn out to be honest

Maintenance schedule - the schedule for performing scrubs, balances, defrags, and disk tests
