FVS318G and WireShark

I am having a small problem with my FVS. Talking with support via chat did not help much. They were eager to help but did not fix the problem. Problem is; When I lock the firewall with regular rules, wireshark sees all kinds of traffic coming into my network. I created rules and some have stopped coming in, but some are not. Another problem (which may not be a problem at all) I would like to block by rule all traffic to and from the perimeter on these IPs; 224.0.0.0-224.255.255.255, 240.0.0.0-240.255.255.255 and 255.0.0.0-255.255.255.255. Any help will be great!!!

    Hi ABNJuan,

The 224 range is multicast traffic, it's not coming from outside your network but inside.. Please have a look at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast_address

What other traffic do you see come in to your network? The FVS318G (and all of Netgear's routers) default is to block *all* inbound connections unless it's a response to something that was initiated from the inside.

    Cheers,

    Danthem

edit: guess I should've checked the date of the post.. I can see this was posted quite a while ago. heh - hope it worked out for you in the end.
