Can you connect to the router's wifi from that new room (with your phone or some other wifi client)?

Aehm ... aware a network cable is required to connect the AP to the router? It's an access point, not a extender or repeater.
- jjb4521Nov 16, 2018AspirantYes, I am... I’m using a pair of Netgear powerline adapters to get back to my router ... but even when I configured it using a cable to the router , I still had the same issue... the power light stayed amber

I am thinking that you must have a WN2500RPv2. Is that correct? The original WN2500RP doesn't have a power led that changes from amber to green (as least it's not in the manual).
Are you using the instructions on page 16 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WN2500RPV2/WN2500RPv2_UM_EN.pdf
Have you confirmed that the powerline ethernet is working properly?
If yes, then I think that the next step is to do a reset of the extender, and try to set it up again. The amber LED indidcates that the extender isn't completing it's boot.
