Connecting wifi extender to switch

I would like to add a wifi range extender in my house. My current wifi is in the basement hooked into my entertainment center.  My wifi is poor throughout the house and on the outside deck. I do have a hard wired ethernet connection through a switch on the main floor for my desktop . Am I able to connect a wifi extender to the switch on the main floor to enhance my wifi throughout the rest of the house?   Any suggestions? Thanks for your reply!

  • Hi jprrpj,

Yes. You can connect an extender setup in AP mode to your existing switch to get wifi through it.

      Thank you.

Is there a special netgear product line that is best for this application?

        Hi jprrpj,

All Netgear extenders that has ethernet port will support AP. If you need more ethernet ports on it, you can look for EX6200, EX7000 and EX8000.
