EX7500, No 2.4ghz or 5ghz Led light despite the connection working.

I just got this thing. Initially the 2.5 LED flashed and then was solid when I connected it to my R7000 Nighthawk via WPS. The 5 LED never lit. According to the status web page, both 2.5 and 5 were connected successfully. I then did a firmware update. It lost all connections and I had to set it up again. Now neither 2.5 nor the 5 LED light at all, though the status web page again lists both connections as working.

I'm actually not going to use this thing for about six months when I move out of my condo in the city and into a house in the coutry so I'm kind of worried about having a defective device and not realizing it until I've had it for awhile. I had to buy it now because work would reimburse me if I bought it in 2018.

So, do these lights work for anyone with:

  • Firmware Version: V1.0.0.46_1.0.62
Model: EX7500|AC2200 Nighthawk X4S Tri Band Wall Plug WiFi Range Extender

To clarify this:

The router LED gives you the status of the connection between the router and the extender.  That LED won't tell you if that connection is 2.4ghz or 5 ghz, you need to look at the status web page for that.

The 2.4 and 5 ghz LEDs are telling you if clients are connected to the extender using those bands. They won't be lit unless client devices are using the extender.

See the manual for more details: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX7500/EX7500_UM_EN.pdf

Thanks. I didn't get that from the documetnation. Also, on another thread I found about this, the netgear moderator only said to not worry about the lights if the connection was good. You were far more helpful.

I'm still not exactly sold on this thing. Even when this thing is only 20 unobstructed feet away from the router, though the connection light is usually blue, it occasionally turns red for a few seconds. Never any amber. I have no idea if the conneciton is actually bad or not and I wish I had a way to diagnose that.

And for some reason the http://mywifiext.local URL no longer works. I have to call it up by the IP.

Bottom line, though I'm not a network guy, I am a systems engineer and this thing doesn't seem to be fully cooked. Especially for the price. I might have been better off getting the EX7300, which seems to get good reviews.
