Extender not showing up in wifi list

Green lights are on, i'm wanting to do the manua set up the genie because the wps doesn't connect with my router for some reason..tried to pair right next to each other easy stuff you'd think.  But they do not pair.  Plan B login to the netgeer SSID on my wifi connection the the netgear ssid isn't showing up.  Thinking a bad extender.  Thoughts?  I've checked mulitiple devices, re booted everything and still the netgear ssid isn't showing up as a option so i can connect then go to genie to manually do this.  geez  ..lol ...help thanks!
