Extender plus Linksys router

I've had my Netgear extender for a couple of years now and it has worked well. I use it to beam my poor internet signal into another part of the house which I rent out in summer. As I live in France and want to access UK channels such as the BBC, I bought a Linksys router which is configured with VPN. This cloaks my IP address so I can access the BBC. I've just switched on the Netgear extender in preparation for the arrival of guests, and I'm having problems.

I thought it needed setting up again so I went through the process, from my computer in my side of the house and it worked fine allowing me to set up extensions of the original livebox and the Linksys router.

As soon as I put the extender into the other side of the house it wants to go through the same set up procedure again and then just won't work. I feel like I/m going mad! Please help.

    Hello MJK1960

Have you tried the WPS method?

Hi DarrenM, thanks for the suggestion, I do not think my livebox has a WPS button, at least not one I can see, have tried googling it to no avail. What I think has happened is that the software has been hacked. I was able to set it up, it would work for a couple of minutes then go back to saying it was not set up. I noticed the address in the browser was saying 'hijack'. I googled this and it seems to be a common problem, or has been a common problem. I think now I have to download the latest software, connect my extended to my computer with a USB cable and update it. Just got to go out and buy a USB-USB cable...
