Extending wifi-slow result

I an trying to extend wifi to another building on my property.  I have an ethernet cable running to the building.  I am using my old Netgear WNR2000 as a repeater.  However, in the main house, I get a wireless speed of 200 mbps...while in the outbuilding...it is around 30mbps.  Is this normal, or is there  setting on the extentiosn router I can adjust.  Thanks!
