NETGEAR_EXT does not appear in my network list

I plugged in my EX6200, made sure it was powered up, put it near my router and went to 'available networks' on my laptop and, separeately my notebook.  I expected to see NETGEAR_EXT listed as an available network.  However, no such network appears.  What should I do?

Did you use the WPS setup method?

If you did, you should see your router's network name with a trailing _2GEXT and _5GEXT.  Join those using the same passphrase as your router does.

If you don't see those either (or if you can't join them), then reset the extender again, but don't press WPS.  Then you should see NETGEAR_EXT.

I see the two network options (>network<_5GEXT and _2GEXT) but when I click them, it does not present an option to enter the password for my >network< and I don't know enough about how to find or enable this capability.  I'm not a major commputer or network guy.

Can you join those networks from a wifi client (smartphone, pc, etc)?  If you haven't tried that, then do that first.  The device should ask for a password, and you'd enter the one used in your router's wifi.

The initial setup (not using WPS) is described on page 18 of the manual here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX6200/EX6200_UM_EN.pdf  You enter the router's network password(s) in step 9.  The extender will use those same passwords for the _5GEXT and _2GEXT networks.

Post-setup, you navigate to the screen on page 29.  There you can tell the extender not to use the same passwords if you want.  Though normally you would set them to match the router.
