Netgear Range Extender EX2700 Seprate network
Hello,
Have recently received a range extender 2700 model through Amazon and it doesn’t work as i was hoping it would, not sure if its something that can be configured how i would like it to work but any advise if this can or cant be done would be appreciated.
So, I have another extender (not the same make) that extends the wifi signal from my house to the end of the garden but this uses the same wifi connection/network as my router - eg: i keep connected to the same network and it just reaches further.
I have Virgin broadband and needed another it to reach upstairs reliably as currently it just hangs, however with the NetGear one it creates a separate connection - EXT which i have to connect to.
Not sure what the benefit of this is as it means i have to keep changing my wifi connections whenever i move round the house or garden and rather than it just staying connected to one with improved range
Is this something that i can setup to work as required above?
Thanks Damo

You bought the most basic of netgears wireless extenders.
If you're wanting single ssid function, look at netgears line of mesh extenders. They use the roaming protocols to allow the same ssid as the router and allow devices to roam.
You can set the EX2700 with the same ssid as your router but it's going to be "sticky" and not want to roam until the signal is lost entirely.

Thanks for the reply plemans
Amazon do also sell a few other models if i return and exhange it, AC 750 is one they have in stock if this is once that you can use a single SSID function with would you know?
If not ill have a look at mesh extenders as ideally i just want an extended range without 2 seprate wifi connections
Thanks Damian

AC750 is the speed, not a model, so its tough to tell. But they'll say in the name/tech specs if it supports mesh mode.
