Old router and a Yagi as an extender?

Trying to help my dad find a solution to his problem. He'd like to extend his wifi signal from the house to the farm workshop about 500 feet away. There's a little-used road in-between, so looking for a wireless solution. And very limited cell service, if any, at the workshop. Occasionally my phone can see the home wifi network while in the workshop, but far too weak to connect.

I have an old Netgear 7000R Router, but if there's hardware that offers a better fix, that's fine too. Right now we're thinking of connecting a yagi antenna in place of one of the three antennas. Then pointing it to the house and setting up the router as a repeater. Doable, or a dozen reasons why that wouldn't work? Any better wireless solutions?

Don't try that solution. You might get it working but its going to be sketchy and more headache than worth it.

What I'd do is they make point to point systems that do the same thing. Netgear used to sell Airbridge that did that but its been out of stock for a while. Do a quick search on amazon for a point to point system and you should find plenty. I'd pickup one that meets your needs and then just use the R7000 as an access point in the garage connected to the point to point system (as they are just a dedicated connection between the 2x devices).
