Using EX7700 Wired in Mesh Topology

We have a house which is an extended L shape,  and I need to extend Wifi to one far end of the house.

Current Network Topology      R8000 (router)  ----->> Ex7700 (wifi, extender mode) one direction

                                                                                                                                                              |

                                                                                                                                                              |

                                                                                                                                                               V

EX7700 (wifi mesh extender mode) other direction

The house has Cat 6 wiring to each end.    Is it possible to wire an additional EX7700 back to the router (far end of L-shaped house),  rather than multiple  WiFi hops to extend the network, but still maintain the same SSID without conflicts.

I can obviously set the EX7700 up as an 'access point', but previously had access points  to do this and conflicts exist unless Wifi channels were set manually, and it was unreliable.  The solution was to use different SSIDs but that was also problematic.

In essence, Can an extra EX7700 still function in a mesh, but have its backhaul wired via Cat6?

  • Hi hcornea - As you mentioned, the extender will need to be wired and in access point mode. If you set the SSID the same as the main host then the mesh can work correctly.
