extender password

Sometimes people mean "wifi passphrase" when they say "password" - that's the passphrase you enter into your devices to use the extender wifi.  But sometimes they are talking about the web ui password, which is used to reconfigure the extender.  The documentation uses "password" for both of these, which in my opinion just adds confusion.

I am assuming you mean the web ui password, because you are talking about mywifiext.net, and not about connecting a device to the extender's WiFi network..  If I am guessing wrong, please let me know.

That is definitely not the behavior. The extender has no way to read the router password, and it has no way to know when that password has changed.  BTW, that's also true for the passphrase.

In the web ui, the user name is "admin".  The default password is password.  So try that combination.  If it fails (and you can't recall the web ui password) you will need to do a reset of the extender (using a paper clip).  Then you'd need to run through the setup procedure again.

If you really mean the WiFi passphrase, then the reset and fresh setup will also solve that.  For the WiFi passphrase, you could alternatively connect a PC to the WiFi adapter's ethernet port (turning off the PC wifi), and go to mywifiext.net, If you can log in there, you can manually change the passphrase for the router connection, and also change the passphrase for the extender network to match it.

There are three versions of the WN3000RP, (WN3000RP, WN3000RP v2, WN3000RP v3).  You can find the documentation here: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/wn3000rp.aspx#docs  But if you have a v2 or v3, you will need to use the "select a different version" control.
