not accepting password
I changed my router password so now I need to get the extender working again. I pushed the reset button, went through the set up wizard again and entered the new router password. I completed the set...

I did check "use the same password." I was able to get into the firmware dashboard. I did everything anyone has ever suggested in the numerous forums I've checked when researching this problem. Then I found it. - in the set up wizard there is a place to enter the router's password - it says "passphrase" with a box next to it (and next to that box is a icon you can click on that says "generate" ) Turns out that is NOT the box in which to put the password. In goes in the box below that says Key 1. Why in God's name that is supposed to make sense to enter the password where it says Key 1, vs the box that actually says "passphrase" is beyond me.

Hi Soundbooth,
When you first installed your extender, did you select "Use the same security and password as those for the existing network?
Are you able to log in to mywifiext.net after you completed setup?
Looking forward to your response.

I have it working now. The installation notes state "... Use the same password that you use for your wifi router." This I did - this was the root of the problem. I see now that there is a need to first see the Netgear genie screen up first - this was not happening, hence I was not able to check 'use same password'. Having done a reset I got a genie screen and the the rest is history...
Thanks for the hints - appreciated. Not responded sooner as been away.
In retorspect the instructions are fine if all works from step one but unless you know what is supposed to happen post sep one you'll not knw if it has gone wrong.
