the router light stays red, it never did this before N300 MODEL EX2700

i have an old N300 WiFi Range Extender Model # EX2700 last week the light for the router link has remained red. the extender has been in the same place for over 2 years and never done this before. ...

If you have not made any changes to your network setup, it is possible that wireless interference may have caused it (possibly a neighboring WiFi signal). You can try using a WiFi analyzer to check for the best channel you can set your router to.
