We've got 4 ReadyNAS in operation. The 2 oldest units run RAIDiator: v4.1.16 with Samba v.3.6.25 and cannot be upgraded anymore. Microsoft finally decided to dump SMBv1 and all machines on our network got upgraded to a life without SMBv1 hence the 2 old NAS were no longer available to the network. To resolve this issue we decided to enable NSF and disable SMB/CIFS. Microsoft was nice enough to include the NSF-Client and server in their updates. This way we can keep them units on the Network and in production as redundant backups of backups - we first thought. We we're able to map the shares to Windows 10, read and write data for testing, etc. all is operational. So far so good and almost too nice to be true. But there is a problem! Folder- & file-names that use special characters changed their appearance. For instance all Umlaut like äöü became double characters. eg. the letter "ü" displays as double character "ü" in NSF-client. Yep it's an issue directly related to varying codepages. Apparently the NAS OS (RAIDiator) uses varying codepages for SMB/CIFS and NSF. The option for language selection in Frontview is missleading. To be on the safe side one would have to select english ASCII. By selecting any Unicode option incompatibility between SMB/CIFS and NFS filesystems/protocols gets in effect without any mention. This is not documented by Neatgear (at least we could not find anyting). We assume we're not the first and only customers experiencing this senselessness and would like to learn wether there is a solution that we might have missed. Looking forward to receiving responses.4.4KViews0likes7CommentsReadyNAS RNDP4000 unable to access admin page or via share
For some inexplicable reason, my ReadyNAS Pro 4 can't seem to access the admin page anymore, nor can I reach it through a networked drive path. RaidAR can see the unit and reports it being healthy, but I can't access the admin page. I can see the shares from Windows 10, but only the read-only side. If I try to navigate to the share via the previous name or via the local IP address, I receive the error that windows can't access it. I went ahead and did an OS Reinstall from the boot menu, which has changed the IP address for the device on my local network, but still is not allowing me to access the admin page. Aside from standard Windows updates, there have been no changes made to my network or home configuration, so I'm at a bit of a loss for what I can do here. I've tried to disable all firewalls to test, tried multiple Internet browsers to test and I'm not sure what can be done. I can ping the IP address for the ReadyNAS, but I'm not sure what's going on with the web interface at all. If I go to the IP address in a browser directly, I can login with the default credentials to access the /shares, but I can't access /admin at all. I get an error that says: "This site isn’t secure Error Code: DLG_FLAGS_SEC_CERT_CN_INVALID" and if I try to ignore that error, it simply redirects me back. I understand my ReadyNAS is an older unit and I'd love to upgrade to a new one if I can simply install my current drives into a new unit, but that's another question for another time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Solved6.4KViews0likes15CommentsRND2000v1 (ReadyNAS Duo v1) alternate protocol (trying to get rid of SMBv1)
I have 2 2012R2 servers and WIN 7 or WIN 10 PCs only in this network. I want to disable SMBv1 for security purposes. Is there an alternative protocol I can use so my PCs and Servers can access this NAS? I remove SMBv1 from my servers and I cannot access the device. I re-installed it on 1 and I can access the NAS from that server. Is there an update or firware to allow for SMBv2/3 for a Windows network?6.1KViews0likes9CommentsHaving trouble with user homedir shares on CIFS
Running ROS 6.4.1 and Mac OS X 10.11 I was having trouble connecting to some CIFS shares after recent ROS and Mac updates. I managed to resolve all the regular share access by resetting file ownership and flipping SMB status in the admin UI. But with homedirs, nothing I've tried so far works. After looking at the /etc/samba/smb.conf and files in /etc/frontview/samba, everything looks like it should work from what I can tell -- and I have some experience running Samba outside ReadyNAS. *But* when I attempt to log into the user share (even after successfully connecting to other shares as that user) I get "permission denied." I confirmed this running smbclient on the NAS itself. # smbclient -W DOMAIN -U user //nas/user password Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Windows 6.1] Server=[Samba 4.2.4] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED I successfully used this CLI to access other shares as the user and indeed was able to connect as admin to //nas/home and browse the users' homedirs. So... not exactly sure what is afoot here. The tail of the smb.conf contains: include = /etc/frontview/samba/smb.conf.%a include = /etc/frontview/samba/smb.conf.overrides include = /etc/frontview/samba/Shares.conf include = /etc/frontview/samba/Shares.conf.%U include = /etc/frontview/samba/addons/addons.conf [homes] browseable = 0 writeable = 1 public = 0 valid users = %D\%S The recently updated files in /etc/frontview/samba are: -rw-r--r-- 1 admin admin 303 Jan 2 03:27 Shares.conf.admin -rw------- 1 admin admin 2991 Jan 2 03:37 Shares.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 admin admin 0 Jan 2 03:37 dfs.conf Based on this, nothing seems amiss... but I've avoided making any manual adjustments so far.... just using the levers in the admin UI. I have looked at the /home/ directory permissions and all looks well there too. And, sadly, nothing seems to be popping up in the samba logs on the NAS that give any indications of the permission denial.Solved3.1KViews0likes12CommentsUltra 6 plus - SMB not advertised anymore
Hello, ULTRA6 PLUS 6x3TB Xraid2 OS 4.2.28 36% capacity used Suddenly the SMB shares are no more showing on the windows clients - not related to 4.2.28 upgrade. Shares are still accessible via the IP address, SSH works. No mods were done recently, all disks are fine. Maybe the CIFS service is not running ? Some partitions get full ? I spent hours around this and can work my way around Windows and networking but would need pointers for Linux and such. Any ideas ? Thanks BenoitSolved4.2KViews0likes12CommentsHelp - Readynas Ultra 4 Plus - I think the Data is okay, but the Readynas is not functioning
So an HVAC tech came out and flip the circuit breakers without my knowledge. Now my Readynas Ultra 4 Plus is not functioning properly. At first I could see it on PC. i could navigate to it by IP and by Hostname. however when I double clicked on one of the shares, it would error out with "network name no longer available." I did a quick google search and saw something about DLNA, however I don't even have DLNA enabled. So thought I do some troubleshooting. I tried to update the firmware and even though I am positive that I downloaded the correct firmware, the GUI states that the firmware file is not supported with this architecture. Update over the internet doesn't work at all, it just sits there when I click the button. So then I thought, hmm, why don't i try disabling CIFS and re-enabling. Now it won't re-enable at all. Raidar reports everything is healthy. The ReadyNas Admin page also seems like everything is okay, However I just can't access the data. For isntance, the home page shows Volume c: Online, X-Raid2, 4 disks, 99% of 5543gb used. Also the health page shows everything as OK. There is nothing in the logs. So what are my options? What would be the best way to get my data? 1) Can I go and get 4 blank drives.. Restore to factory? Then try to put my old drives back in? 2) Do i have to get something like ReClaime or R-Studio to recover my data? b) If so is there any good step by step guide on how to do it? I wish there was a way to do restore the OS to factory without losing the data. I am sure the Raid Partition is in tact, it's just the OS is malfunctioning. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.3.5KViews0likes6Comments
