Hi, I see where I can add custom entries to DHCP (MAC address to IP address). This is great, and probably good enough for what I'm trying to do. However, I'm wondering if there is some feature that allows me to map a LAN IP Address to a hostname. I've got a bunch of computers on my network like network attached storage, linux servers, and the like. I'm getting tired of typing in the IP Address all the time I'd rather browse to https://ds916.orbilogin.net/ rather than browse to https://192.168.1.12 This is basically the orbilogin.com -> 192.168.1.1 mapping that Netgear provides. I guess I'm wondering if this is hard coded or if I can go in and add my own entries ThanksSolvedForcing Router DNS / Blocking Port 53 @ Clients
Having just upgraded to Orbi, trying to duplicate my configuration around forcing devices in my home to use the DNS defined manually in the router and not allowing individually connected clients to override with their own cited DNS servers. In my previous Netgear router/AP I went into SECURITY, then BLOCKED SERVICES and added a new rule to block PORT 53 for 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.254 (assuming the router itself @ 192.168.0.1 needed to be open/available). This worked great on my previous Netgear router, but now it blocks all DNS on all attached clients even when they haven't defined any DNS statically. Did something change or am I missing something ? Thx.Orbi router pings netgear.com every ~6 seconds
I have no clue why this is necessary but it's jamming up my DNS logs in PiHole since it results in some 14k netgear.com lookups a day. Maybe it's being used as a connectivity test? I blocked the domain and the router still reports internet connectivity. I grabbed a pcap to see what was being sent and as far as I can tell it's just pings. It's 98B of data for each echo request/response so just for fun... (600/hr\*98bytes\*24h)\*2 bytes = 2.8MiB/day of data for every Orbi sold.Having seperate issues, both connectivity and DNS
So I started experiencing the connectivity problems. But sometimes I noticed netflix kept playing, while browsers, cell and youtube diconnect. When netflix is playing, I open up a command prompt, run nslookup and checked DNS. It listed the ORBI, 192.168.1.1 as the server. Overriding to google in the nslookup session cleared problem instantly. Is there a way to disable DNS masq (which it looks like it's doing), and passthrough DNS? The total connectivity issues started right after 1.4 for me actually. Cheers StavSet fall-through DNS to DHCP
This is more of an enhancement request than anything else... Problem: My ISP is constently changing their broadcasted DNS addresses. Why? Because they constantly have DNS issues! So I'm wondering if NetGear specifically the Orbi firmware can have an option to have a fall-through DNS entry. For example: * If all of the ISP broadcasted (via DHCP) DNS addrs are non-responsive * Then fall through to some user added public DNS like: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 Thanks!
