ReadyNas102 eSATA 6.5.1
1 TopicReadyNAS 102 6.5.1 Upgrade Issues
My set up is a ReadyNAS 102 using a powered Seagate 2TB SRD00F2 USB drive for backup. Firmware was 6.4.2. This had worked flawlessly for many months, maybe a year. The ReadyNAS is less than 40% used Snapshots enabled. Backup tasks were running with a couple of small backups running daily, and a few running weekly at different times to the daily. Iwasn't getting any conflict errors. So, all looked ok. I logged on to the unit for the first time in a few months, and it advised me there was a firmware upgrade available. So I checked that all backups had completed (all ok) and took the upgrade. I wish I hadn't! The upgrade went ahead, the unit was restarted, and I looked to check all was OK. It wasn't. First thing I noticed was I was getting this error: The backup tasks were all showing an error along the lines of "unit not available". Before the upgrade the USB drive was USB_HDD_9 after the upgrade it had become USB_HDD_10 so the backup tasks did not know about it. So I deleted the tasks and started again. That was a nightmare. The unit just became unresponsive. I swapped the USB backup cable, and connectors on the ReadyNAS - no difference. I took the USB backup drive off and checked it on a PC that said there were errors on the drive. So I fixed those and tried again - no difference. The backup USB works fine on a PC and all the files looked ok. So I downgraded to 6.4.2, all the same including the error. The only app I run is Plex. I deleted that, no difference. Restarted the ReadyNAS, no difference, reinstalled Plex, no difference. To cut a long story short I bought another 2TB drive, set up the backup tasks again and all ran OK. Albeit slowly because I was backing up around 700GB. After a while that all happened and all now seems to be back to normal apart from the error message. One additional thing I have now tried for the first time is to use the eSATA port, I cannot get any drive to be recognised on that, I have tried several drives, have restarted the ReadyNAS. So several questions: Is firmware 6.5.1 appropriate for a low end unit like the 102? Should I be concerned about the error? Shouldn't the eSATA drive be recognised automatically? Pierre
