Rsync
56 TopicsRsync just hangs..
So I have three shares on a ReadyNAS 3200 that I'd like to sync with a ReadyNAS Pro 4 which is used as an in-house backup, before the data is eventually backed up onto external HDDs and removed off-site. The share's contain a fairly sizeable amount of data 100s of GB. No matter what I do, I cannot get the 3200 to backup the three shares to the Pro 4. Ideally I'd like to get the first data backed up using a standard NFS backup then switch to a Rsync incremental backup that will run every few hours each day. When attempting to backup using NFS shares from the Pro "pulling" data from the 3200, it never gets started, just hangs. If I "push" the data from the 3200 to the Pro, it starts and very slowly copies some files over, then the 3200 Frontview stops responding and the backup simply halts. If I try to do the first backup using Rsync, no matter which way around I try it, they always both get stuck at "receiving incremental file list" and while neither locks-up or fails to respond, nothing actually happens (I've left it for 7 days+ once and still nothing).6KViews0likes17CommentsSemantic confusion between SOURCE and TARGET about RSYNC differential backup job…
Hello there, Could someone tell me what should I trust? Should I trust what's written in the ReadNAS Help section "Configure Advanced RSYNC Job Setting" about differential backup that says "Remove deleted files on SOURCE" …or should I trust what's written on the actual advanced job interface that say "Remove deleted files on TARGET" This is totally confusing and dangerous if the job actually removes from the source the files that have been deleted on the target. A differential backup usually removes the files from the target which have been deleted on the source (as explain in the help section) I want to do a differential backup (removing files from the TARGET that have been deleted from the source) should I check the box or not?Solved1.2KViews0likes3CommentsFolder Timestamps & Rsync'ing directly from one ReadyNAS to another (no PC)
I would like to transfer the contents of an OS 4 ReadyNAS to an OS 6 ReadyNAS. On a test run, the Rsync changed the date created/modified of folders (this differed whether the folders were viewed over CIFS or AFP). As I understand it, an -a flag in Rsync will preserve folder attributes including modification and creation times. How can I add the -a flag (or similar) to the ReadyNAS Rsync Web UI? Or is there an alternative CLI option? Separately, I recall when I upgraded from an old NV+ I connected the two NASes directly and pressed the backup button for line-speed transfer. How would I do this with OS 6? Which options might I have to set up? Many thanks in advance for any guidance.946Views0likes1CommentHow to restore user home folders From C volume backup?
I'm in the process of restoring data to our main NAS from the backup NAS. Both are running OS 6.8.0. The backup is a C volume copy pushed nightly from the main NAS via rsync when it was running RAIDiator 4.x firmware. With OS6, volume copy is no longer available so I'm rsyncing the backed up share folders into their approprate shares on the main NAS. This is working fine for all share folders except user folders in home. I'm unable to set up a rsync job with the main NAS home share as a destination. I was able to set up a backup job to a temporary transfer share I created as destination. Question - is this the only way to restore the user home folders? Do I have to rsync the backups to a regular share, then once on the NAS move them into their proper user folders? What is the current best practice for backing up and restoring user home folders? Thanks!Solved1.1KViews0likes1CommentRN314 and Rsync
Have an older RN314 that I'm looking to use as a backup device for another NAS. The manufacturer of the other device wants to use Rsync. Question: Can this device handle Rsync and is there a minimum firmware version required? Thanks! Hi, I'm desperatly trying to backup a windows 2008 R2 server Data hard drive in my readynas104. I've been doing automated backup with windows (Archive) for a while, when I realised one day that the backup was showing complete but some files were missing. I tried to change to windows timestamp, and it was the same. I looked at the topics and undertood that maybe this was due to the protocol, and it would be better to use rsync. I installed deltacopy on the server and tried the rsync backup job. Although it shows complete it is still incomplete, and a lot of files are missing. I checked through the forums but couldn't find a solution. Can anyone help me please, I don't know what to do... My firmware is 6.7.5, and I have a readynas 104. Thank you2.2KViews0likes1CommentRsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
The 3100 only received Notification to upgrade to 6.7.1. Since then backing up using rsync sometimes fails within a minute. The Pro received a notification to upgrade to 6.7.3 - not 6.7.1. Since then all rsync backups fail within a minute. I can not backup /data locally to the USB drives because I can not provide an exclude list this way. Any help please with rsync since 6.7.1 / 6.7.3 ?9.2KViews0likes53CommentsRSYNC backup from nas OS6 to nas OS6 change file permission/owner
Hi, I have 2 NAS with active directory security, there is a a rsync backup job from nas A to nas B. Nas B file persission/owner are set as default but after the rsync backup there are messed. After that the webgui of the shares became slow in refreshing and in systemd-journal.log I found many errors like these: readynasd[3105]: Failed 'wbinfo --gid-info 32802': failed to call wbcGetgrgid: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND readynasd[3105]: Could not get info for gid 32802 Any ideas how to avoid this? I have a couple of old Sparc Duos that I am wanting to transfer the data to my new(to me) RN104. One of them has 0.2TB, the other 1.8TB data. I have previously transferred about 80% of the data from the 1.8TB Duo to the RN104 I have set up Rsync backup job on the RN104. It has been running for 60 hours now and is still "in progress". There are two issues: 1. Only one folder has not been replicated in full, and there have been no files copied for over 24 hours now. 2. The folder timestamps are showing the date copied, not the date on the original folder structure There is no log of the backup job visible, is there any way to discover what the RN104 is actually doing. I am thinking I should cancel the job, and either rerun it, or simply create a new job to run against the folder that hasn't been fully copied yet, but thought it would be sensible to ask for advice before I press the big red button. I have made a previous posting about the folder timestamps, but didn't get the issue fully sorted. I am forming the opinion that OS 6 is much more about presentation that actual data handling as my Rsync jobs on the Sparc boxes always copied over the folder last modified dates faithfully Thanks in advance for any help ps, RN104 is running 6.6.0, the Duo is running 4.1.133.9KViews0likes9CommentsRsync difference OS6 v OS 4 Security ?
I seem to be encountering another difference between how OS6 works compared to OS 4. I know I can achieve my objective by using another protocol or swapping source / destination around, but that isn't really the point, so could I ask for some help please. I am creating a third version of my data on an RN104. Having examined the 3 versions I have identified a few differences which I want to correct at an individual folder level using Rsync. I have successfully created and run an rsync job transferring data from a local share on a Duo to a remote rsync server on a Duo. The job was created and ran first time with no issues. I then amended the job, simply changing the destination IP address and attempted to transfer data from the first Duo to my RN104. The job fails, for unknown reason, with the backup job log containing the following sending incremental file list rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (54) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(759) [sender=3.0.6] I have downloaded the logs on the RN104 and system.log shows the following (IP address and destination folder edited out) Mar 07 22:59:26 NAS_104 rsyncd[7702]: name lookup failed for 172.16.x.xx: Name or service not known Mar 07 22:59:26 NAS_104 rsyncd[7702]: connect from UNKNOWN (172.16.x.xx) Mar 07 22:59:26 NAS_104 rsyncd[7702]: rsync to [Destination] from UNKNOWN (172.16.0.50) Mar 07 22:59:26 NAS_104 rsyncd[7702]: ERROR: module is read only Mar 07 22:59:26 NAS_104 rsyncd[7702]: rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(999) [Receiver=3.1.1] I successfully tested the connection both on an anonymous basis and using the admin user / password Any idea what is going on ? Does rsync need to be read/write, and if so how do you configure it, or is the RN104 denying access because it doesn't recognise the source NAS.Solved2.2KViews0likes2Comments
