Orbit Apple HomeKit integration
Hey Siri, what is my connection speed. How many devices are on my network and so on. I know it sounds crazy, but I was just watching the Apple WWDC2017 last week and saw Arlo in the HomeKit ios11 screen. Having HomeKit integration in the Orbi would just make it that much smarter and easier to interact with. I love my Orbi system but I hate the ios App seems useless to me other than if I forget my wifi password(which I don't). Adding HomeKit would mean not having to open the app and getting status updates. I'm not a developer so i don't know if this is even possible or if apple even connects with routers yet. But it would be a great addition.
Bad iOS/Apple Connectivity (solved) and Slow Speeds - Orbi RBR40 - FW v 1.10.1.2
I have owned the Orbi RBR40 home wifi system for approximately 3 weeks. Within the first 30 seconds of being connected I ran a speed test and it showed 150mbps up/down immediately after a ran a subsequent speed test which showed 20 mbps up/down. Since then, all speedtests across all wireless devices run between 5 mbps and 30 mbps up/down. Averaging about 20 mbps. Furthermore it seems like all of my apple devices that were not connected to the wireless network the very first time the Orbi was plugged in were unable to connect to the Orbi system when it was in router mode. I reset the Orbi, changed the SSID, tried connecting to a guest network, and toggled every single setting in order to resolve the issue. Finally, upon consulting these message boards, I took the advice here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/FINALLY-got-the-ORBI-not-to-drop-connection/td-p/1223334 and changed my Orbi from Router to AP mode and these apple devices finally connected. At this point I guess I am comfortable not using the Router functions of the Orbi device, but this is still disappointing. Even after getting the apple devices to connect, I am still averaging about 20 mbps up/down accross my wireless devices. My average speeds are as follows: Wired Straight to ATT Fiber Router: avg 800 mbps up/down, peak around 960 mbps Wired Straight to Orbi Main Hub: avg. 600 mbps up, 750 mbps down , peak around 700 mbps up and 900 mbps down Wired Straight to Orbi Satellite: avg. 200 up/down, peak around 300 mbps up/down Wireless Avg: 20 mbps up/down, peak around 30 mbps up/down I think that the loss between Router and main hub is expected (actually probably pretty good) The loss from Hub to Satellite seems a little extreme, but I would reluctantly believe that this is normal The loss from hub/satellite to wireless device cannot be right and I don't know what the cause is. Again, I have toggled every setting on these devices and performed a Wireless Analysis on Mac to determine their suggested channels (2.4: 6,2; 5.4: 44). I am currently running 2.4 on channel 2 and 5.4 on channel 44, though I have toggled through all of them and havent noticed any significant difference. The wireless functionality on my ATT modem/router combo is disabled including all broadcasting functionality Also, i have enabled Beamforming and MUMIMO but don't notice any difference one way or another on the effect on speed. Finally, I initially purchased a router/1 satellite system and installed this, but was not getting the signal strength throughout my house. I acknowledge that this was my fault because I intentionally placed the satellite in an unrecommended location. Since then I purchased a third satellite and placed it in across the house from my router and dropped the power on each band down to 25%. I have a smaller house and was interested in getting the "hardwired" satellite functionality in my home office (close to the router). My speed issues existed prior to adding the additional satellite and since. Even with the power cut to 25% I get strong coverage throughout my home and at a consistent average speed of 20 mbps up/down. Just to make sure interference was not my problem i have run tests of each satellite independently and the router alone. Still looking at 20 mpbs up/down. If there are any suggestions on how to regain some of my speed I would greatly appreciate hearing them.NETGEAR Orbi Apple iOS App
So the Connected Devices finally show up on the app but they all say "WIRED." You guys are really struggling with the app huh? The programming to get this stuff correct is pretty basic. Can you fix the WIRED/WIRELESS issue please? With that said, the hardware is awesome so go Netgear, props.Orbi or Nighthawk with access points?
Hello, I'm really seeking some good solid advice here folks regarding upgrading my existing Apple AirPorts to a mesh or router with access point system. I'm not a big pro here, I do know some as you'll see below. But, I am definately drawn to the convenience of the mesh system all working together in one app with easy setup etc. After much effort, my Airport setup still dissapoints with frequent slow loading video, poor range overall etc. It's time to upgrade. Here's my situation: Currently: 1. I have 1 Airport Extreme and 2 Airport Expresses. Airport Extreme connects via thernet to both Expresses, cable I've run one way or another when using them as repeaters wirelessly failed miserably. It's a pretty big house I'm covering here. 2. Whats so important is that I have MANY many devices connected well beyond phones and tablets. I need a router system that can handle that. Also, I need a system that can handle playing music via AirPlay through iTunes flawlessly. Currently, my wired speakers handle it great and my 4 wireless speakers work 90% of the time, which is acceptable, barely. I've read that Orbi has had some issues with reliability when it comes to airplay, so that's a concern. Scenario 1: Orbi 1. Replace the 3 Airports with a 2 unit Orbi system. I could still keep my Airport expresses connected in bridge mode and use them for airplay speakers, connected via ethernet branched off the main router. The wifi would need to feed the rest of the wireless speakers in the house however. 2. I currently have 3 WIRED locations, and with Orbi I cannot connect them via ethernet for the backhaul, it MUST be done via wireless tri band. So, this begs the question, is Orbi SOOOO good and reliable that even running wirelessley it's better/as good as a router with wired access points? Will the backhaul required when using airplay suffer since the rest of the system is forced to use the wireless backhaul and not ethernet? Or is it all just so amazingly perfect and range extending that it will all beat the 3 Airports I have spread through my 3,000 sqft home? Scenario 2: Nighthawk plus access points 1. I could easily just swap out my existing 3 units for 1 Nighthawk AC3200 router and 2 AC1900 access points. Is there a system that is already bundled or MADE to work flawlessly together in this configuration? Netgear recommended a powerful Nighthawk but the only "access point" type device I could find was the AC1900, which is dual band while the router I would get would be 3 band. 2. this begs the question, what is the TriBand used for in a wired system? Is it used to manage traffic better or is it relatively pointless as it's there to run the backhaul for wireless devices, and since I'm wiring all 3 of them together, this Tri Band dream I'm holding onto is irrelevant? Should I just get a strong dual band with dual band extenders and call it a day? 3. Again, I'd really like this to be somewhat future proof, I don't want to bother with the wifi again for a long long time. I want it to be able to grow and handle it. I'll throw a decent amount of money at it to get that too. Please, any other model configuration or brand suggestions are VERY welcome. Lastly, I know the Eero system supports the ethernet backhaul (and maybe even the Velop). Is there a benefit to a wired mesh system OVER a wired routher/access point system? I cannot connect any Apple device running iOS 10 to the wifi on my C6300. At first I thought the wifi just stopped working, but I verified some older devices with iOS 9 connected without any problems. I also verified the MAC addresses were correct in the Access Control lists. All wireless devices are able to connect to another router (r7000) that is set in Access Point mode. I see there is a signal strength analyzer for Android, but cannot find one in the Apple App store. I just want to see if it is worth getting the N300 WiFi Range Extender, since the Master BedRoom (on the far side of the apartment from the C3000 modem/wireless router) has pretty good but not great service. We use Mac and Windows computers in my home. I just bought Orbi Router and Satellite and want to know how to mount a QNAP NAS via Orbi Satellite. Prior to using Orbi, I was using Apple Extreme and in this case all I used to do was on my Apple iMac, go to Finder>Go>Connect-to-server and input the following: afp://192.168.1.6. This process is however not working when I connect my QNAP to the Orbi Satellite via Ethernet and then on my Apple iMac I go to Finder>Go>Connect-to-server and input the following: afp://192.168.1.6. Am I doing something wrong? Would appreciate any assistance on this.Netgear WiFi Cable Modem Router Model C3700 cannot connect to 2nd Generation Apple TV - Cox cable
I have a Model C3700 which will not connect to Apple TV. Using the Netgear firmware, and click on the Wireless tab. I can see all iphones and ipads connected. I do not see the Apple TV. In addition, the Remote application on the iPad does not show Apple TV. In iTunes, I have verified Homesharing is on. When I use the Ethernet cord from C3700 to the Apple TV and look at the Wired tab, I can see the Apple TV. Using my TV and Apple TV Settings, I go to General-Network and connect to the NetGear C3700 WiFi. But when I return to the Menu, I do not see any Apple TV applications, but only my Home Shared computer. So two things, can I connect C3700 wirelessly to Apple TV? If not, how can I see the Apple TV application when I am wired via Ethernet.
