7 TopicsEthernet backhaul causes crash if anything else is on the switch
I've heard of others having issues with ethernet backhaul. I suspect mine is similar. Short story: if any device other than the connection for ethernet backhaul is connected to the satellite or router, the whole system quickly crashes. I presume this is because the system can't figure out which device is for the backhaul and what's a regular old device on the network. Any suggestions?HOW FAR APART can router satellite be?
So I am reading a "solved" question that never gets a straight answer, not even one "if everything were perfect" one, just generizations & what ifs and don't-blame-me-later due to a wrong answer ... 1 Kudo earned, really?. UGH Again HOW FAR APART can router satellite be? 1. in order for a GOOD signal be reported 2. for highest speed internet produced I would expect a manufacturer rep/tech to KNOW this, if only IDEAL conditions, e.g. open air field, line of sight or across a lake, line of sight as one posted in the referenced community Q that failed to gain any answer in feet. Next up would be through single/dbl pane glass (windows), as this distance could solve many problems and cut down on tech support woes, put the cokkies on the bottom shelf. After that I DO understand as architect the implications of hurtles such as sheetrock, wood studs, even insulation, especially foil faced, then metal roofs ... similar to cell phone woes. Here I see generalizations might apply BUT no solutions ever given, e.g. cut a piece of that foil out to create "line of sight" to a brother satellite or mother router! What about bouncing sigals off sheetrcok walls, ala billards? ,,, and other ideas that have worked for others?RBK53 - Clarification on Ethernet Backhaul Set-Up
Hi i am hoping someone can help me clear up some questions regarding the setting up of my RBK53 Orbi router and two sateliites in an Ethernet Backhaul configuration. I have looked at the link below and read many posts on this site and others by don’t seem to get a clear view on how I connect to my home network. https://kb.netgear.com/000051205/What-is-Ethernet-backhaul-and-how-do-I-set-it-up-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-System My setup at up at home is a broadband router with 4 x LAN ports that are then connected to various small 1gps netgear switches throughout my house. Some of these switches daisy chain out to other rooms with switches so it is not a clean star topology. My Orbi router is currently connected directly into broadband router in AP mode via the yellow WAN port. The satellites are then wirelessly connected to the router. i have three key questions that I am looking to get clarified: 1/ with the running of a couple of cables I should be able to get the setup as per the 3rd diagram at the link above, i.e. all connected to a single netgear switch into the Orbi LAN ports. My question then Is, how should I connect the broadband network to my Orbi devices. Should I: a) run a cable from my broadband router into the yellow WAN port on the Orbi router? b) run a cable from my broadband router into another LAN port on the Orbi router and ignore the yellow WAN port? c) run a cable from my broadband router into the same switch I am connecting my Orbi devices to and ignore the yellow WAN port? 2/ assuming the above gets answered and I get it all working ok. Can I then run cables from my Orbi satellites into my other netgear switches to continue my network daisy chain to other rooms? 3/ before setting up the Ethernet Backhaul should I factory reset the satellites so that they lose their wireless configuration or do i leave as they are and will they just work out that they are connected via Ethernet and stop trying to create a wireless Backhaul? i hope this is all clear and I look forward to your support. cheersSolvedMixed Wired & Wireless Backhaul
Do the Orbi's support wired backhaul yet? If so, is there a reference guide you can point me to explaining how to set it up? I have an Orbi Router RBR 50, with a total of 3 additional satellites. This setup covers a 6,000 sq ft home & a 1 acre property. Everything runs off of this Orbi system. Wireless security cameras, Ecobee thermostats, Skybell, TV Boxes (minix NEO-U9h), laptops, tablets, etc. In total we have more than 30 connected devices. I suspect that the wireless HD security cameras are saturating the wireless backhaul. If we are watching TV (local network/wireless) & surfing internet at the same time, we sometimes get TV bufferring. It's my belief that by running a hardwired backhaul to the Orbi Satellite closest to the cameras, would free up the wireless backhaul & greatly improve the performance of our network. When the security cameras are turned off, I get a minimum of 500 Mbps connectivity in every corner of our home & every corner of our 1 acre property. Best- DarrenOrbi : Captive Portal for Guest / Customer Internet access
Hi, The Orbi hardware is great for what we want to use it for in our charity. For many reasons we don't have network cabling between three separate buildings so wireless backhaul is our only option. We want to offer free wifi in our cafe. I note that the Orbi has a guest option BUT... we need the customer to agree to terms and conditions on a captive portal webpage before they get their free wifi. As far as I can see, the Orbi doesn't have a built in option to edit a captive portal page in it's firmware, so any recommendations how a captive portal could be used? Many thanks BSG
