11 TopicsCan the Nighthawk D7000 be put into Bridge Mode
Hi, My wired network is in a new location in my house away from the phone socket but all the wired devices are together in the same location. What I would like to do is position my Nighthawk next to the wired network to act as the router for the wired network devices. I would like to put my ISP router/modem next to the phone socket for the internet connection. My thinking is I could put the Nighthawk D7000 into bridge mode to act as a router only and wirelessly bridge to the ISP modem for the internet connection. There seems to be only an option to make the Nighthawk to act as modem/router or modem only but not as router only. Can some one advise if the D7000 can be used in this way? Thanks in advance. I am trying to create a wireless bridge to connect ethernet components in one part of my home to the internet. The intenert connection comes through a cable modem connected to my wireless router WNDR4300. I want to re-purpose a WNDR3700v3 to bring the internet access to devices which do not have wireless capability (DVD Player and Roku) but have ethernet ports. I followed the instructions for each of the routers (different), but I must have missed or done something wrong, because it didn't work. Can someone help? Thanks. JuanSolvedBridge Nighthawk routers: x8 r8500 to x10 r9000
Hi all, I just bought an upgrade r9000 (x10) from my current r8500 (x8) router due to plex and 10gbe lan. The issue I'm having is that my router is at one end of the house, and prior I used eero routers in conjunction to reach all areas of my house, but the biggest problem here is that eero sucks at having simultaneous connections, especially playing video games on 3-4 pcs! So instead of getting rid of my r8500, I was hoping to get rid of my eero. I'm hoping to use my r8500 as a bridge in the middle of the house so it extends the reach to the end of the other side. I tried #1 rated av powerline 2000 and was getting extremely low speeds vs wifi, so that was returned since it didn't work. As a bridge, wouldn't this work since both are supposedly able to transfer fast speeds (especially within lan)? I tried looking at how to bridge these two together but couldn't find anything. Help and insight would be great! Thank you!Solved6.7KViews0likes2CommentsCan R7000 (or 7500, 7800, etc.) do wireless ethernet bridge + AP? (repeater bridge)
I'm trying to find out if the stock Netgear firmware allows you to put, say, an R7000 into wireless repeater bridge mode whereby it connects--preferably with the 5Ghz channel--to my main router, and then also acts as an access point and broadcasts my SSIDs--prefrably on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz (though I realize this would require a virtual AP that I bet Netgear doesn't support). If not, then I'll just go with Tomato or DD-WRT, as I've used those in the past for such exercises. Thank you!Solved5.6KViews0likes4CommentsWNDR4300V2 slow in bridge mode with VDSL?
I've had a number of WNDR type routers (3400, 3400V4 and now 4300V2) and have worked well with my Cable modem (30M Down/5M Up). Recently I've switched to DSL and have upgrade connectivity to 50M Down/10M Up. When connected with both ISP provided Modem/router or a Smart RG 505 Modem/router I've been easily able to obtain these speeds with both WiFi and wired connections to the router. All works normally as expected. I want to use my Netgear routers as my DHCP/Gateway and have configured the modem in Bridge mode. I let the router handle the PPPoE login and things seem to work fine EXCEPT speed drops to max 27-28M Down/ 10M Up (both wired and wireless). I've been pulling my hair out over this. MTU is set correctly (checked with Ping and verified with ISP). NAT/Firewall turned off on bridge. I've even tried both modems with almost exactly the same results. Thinking it was a problem between the modem and router negotiating bridge setup I've set the modem up as the gateway and setup a DMZ host to point to the Netgear router (and my LAN behind it). Router is still DHCP server for my LAN and the router has a static "WAN" address on the same subnet as the LAN on the modem. Everything works great and I can login and verify both pieces of hardware. No double NAT issues and UPnP works fine. AGAIN the speed drops to 27-29Mbps. Too slow. I have also taken an old TPLink router and replaced my Netgear router as the Gateway/DHCP server/router and speeds are back up to 50M Down/ 10M Up in both bridge mode and as the DMZ target. So this really seems to point to the Netgear modem as the bottle neck. Any advice? I searched a bit and found a few similar posts but no resolution. Most suggestions were wrt MTU (which I've played with and verified with the other modem/router) or using it as a DMZ target which doesn't seem to increase my speed. Am I hitting the limit of the WNDR4300? It is a relatively recent router (only a couple of years old) so I expect it could handle 50Mbps?? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Solved6.7KViews0likes6Commentswifi to LAN bridge
I have recently moved from having a separate office to having one in my rented house. The internet is supplied by Sky through one of their modem/routers and it works...ish. My router is downstairs in the lounge and my office is now shoe-horned into a small upstairs bedroom and I have several devices in the office that are connected to each other via an Ethernet switch (which was fine in the old office where I had direct access to the router's LAN port). I now need to get the switch on the LAN reliably connected to the router. So far I have a mains-routed extender and this works okay but there is a fault with them in that they often lose the LAN connection. It is a known fault that I learned of AFTER buying them. I cannot run CAT5 from the office to the router and I cannot reposition the router. Somehow I need to bridge my office LAN, via WIFI to the Sky router. Buying a new router and associated bits is not out of the question but I have yet to ask Sky for the settings (their router came ready configured). Any suggestions? I have setup TP-WR700N in bridge mode to extend my apartment's community WiFi, which is password free. I have set up TP-WR700N with diffrent name & password, but when I connect to this new TP-WR700N access point from any device, Internet doesnt work. Anyone know whats wrong here ?2.7KViews0likes1CommentWN3000RP signal ext
I have the WN3000RP signal extender, that is extending my signal from my main router, which is a Cisco Linksys EA3500. However I have a older Netgear router which is a WGR614v10. I cannot seem to get the netgear and the Cisco linksys router to connect as in repeat or bridge, (unless i am doing something wrong). So I thought I would extender the signal with the extender and tehn connect the Netgear router to the extender as a bridge or repeater. Any advice? I just purchased two AC1750 R6400 routers with the intent of using one as the primary or modem router connected directly to my modem and the second as a bridge. I configured the primary router and confirmed that I could wirelessly connect to its 5GHz channel and successfully access the internet via my laptop. Next, I disconnected the ethernet connection of the primary router to the modem and connected the bridge router to the modem so it could be configured. Following the directions in the user manual, I then proceeded to set up the second router by selecting the radio button to "Enable Bridge mode" at the ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings menu location. I clicked the "setup bridge mode wireless settings" and selected 5GHz as the network freqency, populated the SSID field and password with the 5GHz SSID name and password from the primary router, and selected the radio button for the proper "Security Option" on the bridge router to match that of the primary. I left the check boxes checked for both "Get IP Address Dynamically" and "Get DNS Server Address Dynamically" and hit "Apply." After the bridge router updated, I got a message stating, "Please change your computer's IP address manually if LAN IP subnet will be changed," and at the same time, the status light for the internet connection on the bridge router changed from white to red and I lost capability to access the internet. For troubleshooting, I've tried unplugging the power cord to both my cable modem and the bridge router for 5 minutes, but once powered back on, the internet status light is still red and there is no connectivity to the internet. I'm now stuck. I've followed the directions to the letter in the user manual on how to set up the secondary router as a bridge, but I haven't been able to get it to work. If anyone could help me complete a functional setup of my bridge router, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, JamesSolvedhow to setup WNDR3800 router as a bridge
I have a FIOS router, with an RJ-45 cable/jack to the room where I want to create a new wifi network for that part of the house. I got it to work, but the crucial step seemed to be when the Netgear changed its IP to 10.0.0.1. I had full internet access....then I had to move some furniture, which meant the router briefly lost power. Now, I have the wifi network, but no internet connectivity (although the Internet light is green, and the router config page says Good for Internet). What is the reliable way to configure the NDR3800 into this sort of bridge mode?Solved
