ethernet backhaul
4 TopicsHow to setup ORBI in a large house with concrete walls
WIFI has always been an issue in a house, which was built with thick concrete walls, quite many rooms etc. This leads to considerable loss of wifi signal already 5...8 meters away from router, if I'm stepping into other room or just arround the corner where wifi router is not in direct eye-sight . It is quite challenging to put in ethernet network with multiple access points, since then it would require actually drilling thick walls all through the house, which I do not want. So I have been trying to survive with building wifi. Initially with Netgear 7000 router + extension points, which lead to dramatic loss of speed (obviousely), then adding Netgear powerline as a backhaul, but that is pretty unstable due to probably power switching board and circuit breakers (I just do not know how that stuff works). I bought into Orbi lately, hoping it would provide good backhaul connectivity and speed. Which it did on speed. But it did not solved coverage problem, since, really, concrete walls are blocking so much, that it is hard to even get wifi backhaul from 1st flloor to second. This, actually, has been the biggest issue. Now orbiOS 2.1 is out, and I'm hoping I would be able to use it to get ethernet cable from floor 1 to floor 2, and then use 2 Orbi satelites on 2nd floor to populate wifi signal upstairs. Problem already now seems, that Orbi router does not always have good and stable connection to Satelite. May be this is due to low wifi-backhoul signal, impacted by concrete walls, so I try to find a place which works (not easy, tough). Therefore I'm thinking about upgrading to 2.1 and adding 1 ethernet cable (painfull, but seems the only possibility). Question to Netgear Orbi engeneers: Do you think that my problems would be solved, if I would implement following setup: 1st floor: GSM internet modem->Orbi Router (wifi) with 2.1 OS -> Netgear 7000 router -> Netgear Powerline -> Powerline with WIFI in other room (far far away). I need 7000, since I have ~5 ethernet devices to connect. Then put ethernet cable from Orbi Router from 1st to 2nd floor. 2nd floor: ethernet cable -> Orbi Satelite + one more Satelite in far end of house. I will use same SSID on all points. I really hope it will not be dropping connections.Feature Request: Orbi Satellite Ethernet Backhaul
Okay so I have an ORBI system with 2 satellites. My wifi signal is very inconsistent. I know now that ethernet backhaul is supported. Wanted to ask a question: 1. Can I use POWERLINE ADAPTERS (best ones on the market 1200mbps ones), to connect my ehternet backhaul through the powerline. Will it work for my 200mbps connection. So basically I'm going to take an ethernet out of the main ORBI router, into the first powerline adapter and then plug that powerline adapter in the power socket. Then I'm going to take the dual powerline adapters (one for each room) and plug them into their power sockets in each room and take the ethernet out of those and into the respective satellites. Wiould this create a Strong ethernet backhaul and would this strengthen my weak wifi signal and give me better overall mesh performance with each room getting the strongest wifi signal available? Let me know Thank youCabling RBK50 as access point using ethernet backhaul
Hi, I have the following network-setup: - a cable modem acting as bridge - a router (cisco RV325) acting as router - a RBR50 as access point, Firmware V2.1.1.12 - a RBS50 as satellite, Firmware V2.1.1.12 I'd like to use the ethernet backhaul for the satellite. Now i'm really confused about the cabling to use ... According this link Ethernet-backhaul I should use a LAN-Port to connect the ORBI-Router to my Router. When I do this, the Router ring LED shows a solid amber permanently ... I have no problem to conect to the router's webinterface, the connection works fine, but always this solid amber ... In the room I'd like to place my router I have one ethernet connection point, a wired connection to the router in the cellar Any idea what is the correct way to cable my ORBI ?Wired backhaul on 2.1.2.18 magenta LED but correct device assignments
Up to now, I always used the ethernet wired backhaul with the router port on my router, which runs in AP mode. This worked very well, but hat the issue, that wireless devices on the satellite were shown as connected wired to the router. Yesterday, I took a look at the wired backhaul KB article and remembered, that when I had connected the router via the first "LAN" port to my network, the LED would stay a solid magenta, which was what make me switch the ports on my router in the first place, since the LED went out and everything else worked as well. However, since then, the assignment of wireless devices, that are connected to the satellite, have always been shown as being connected wired to the router, instead of wirelessly to the satellite. After reading the KB article about how to wired the router correctly, I can state that now the satellite's wireless clients are noted correctly as being wirelessly connected to the satellite, but… …now the LED of the router as turned a solid magenta again for 10 hrs straight.
