10 TopicsEthernet backhaul causes crash if anything else is on the switch
I've heard of others having issues with ethernet backhaul. I suspect mine is similar. Short story: if any device other than the connection for ethernet backhaul is connected to the satellite or router, the whole system quickly crashes. I presume this is because the system can't figure out which device is for the backhaul and what's a regular old device on the network. Any suggestions?Orbi Satellite RBS50 Not Connecting via Ethernet
Hello all! Our home is fairly large and was built by the Moravians (lots of stone), so we needed to connect the satellites via an ethernet cable. So recently I updated the Orbi RBR50, and RBS50's to firmware Version 2.1.2.18, which I was told makes them possible to connect via the ethernet. Now, one satellite is hooked up via the ethernet, but the other changes between the ethernet and 5G connection and gives significantly slower speeds. I've tried resetting it to factory settings and reinstalling the firmware. Is there still something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much ahead of time for all the help!SolvedRBK53 - Clarification on Ethernet Backhaul Set-Up
Hi i am hoping someone can help me clear up some questions regarding the setting up of my RBK53 Orbi router and two sateliites in an Ethernet Backhaul configuration. I have looked at the link below and read many posts on this site and others by don’t seem to get a clear view on how I connect to my home network. https://kb.netgear.com/000051205/What-is-Ethernet-backhaul-and-how-do-I-set-it-up-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-System My setup at up at home is a broadband router with 4 x LAN ports that are then connected to various small 1gps netgear switches throughout my house. Some of these switches daisy chain out to other rooms with switches so it is not a clean star topology. My Orbi router is currently connected directly into broadband router in AP mode via the yellow WAN port. The satellites are then wirelessly connected to the router. i have three key questions that I am looking to get clarified: 1/ with the running of a couple of cables I should be able to get the setup as per the 3rd diagram at the link above, i.e. all connected to a single netgear switch into the Orbi LAN ports. My question then Is, how should I connect the broadband network to my Orbi devices. Should I: a) run a cable from my broadband router into the yellow WAN port on the Orbi router? b) run a cable from my broadband router into another LAN port on the Orbi router and ignore the yellow WAN port? c) run a cable from my broadband router into the same switch I am connecting my Orbi devices to and ignore the yellow WAN port? 2/ assuming the above gets answered and I get it all working ok. Can I then run cables from my Orbi satellites into my other netgear switches to continue my network daisy chain to other rooms? 3/ before setting up the Ethernet Backhaul should I factory reset the satellites so that they lose their wireless configuration or do i leave as they are and will they just work out that they are connected via Ethernet and stop trying to create a wireless Backhaul? i hope this is all clear and I look forward to your support. cheersSolvedVirgin hub to Orbi
Today I purchased the Netgear Orbi system. I thought it may help some people who are searching for help, that if you use the included cable that comes in the box with the Orbi system, to connect to the hub in modem mode, you wont get speeds over 100mb. The Cat5 cable thats included isnt designed for the speeds we can now get on Virgin Media. I tried it, was maxing out at 90(ish)mb, swapped the cable over to a Cat7 (I am sure I Cat6 would be fine, also) and got the speeds I expected. Tons of searching on Google didnt find me this answer, so i'm trying to put it out there to help others understand why they will be getting slow speeds. Hope it helps!Ethernet Backhaul Best Practices
Two questions/clarifications (1) RBR50 is in AP mode. The RBR50 is connected to the ISP router using the RBR50's yellow WAN port. Going to try ethernet backhaul but wanted to do my homework first. The on-line documentation says the RBR50 (in AP mode) should be connected to the ISP router via the LAN port NOT the yellow WAN port. I set-up Orbi using the WAN port and when I switched the RBR50 to AP mode I left the ethernet in the WAN port. Why does Orbi still work with the connection via the WAN port even though I should have moved the cable over to the LAN port on the RBR50? (2) There is also a 1000 Mbps 16 port Netgear switch that is connected to the same ISP router that the RBR50 is also plugged into. Is the best ethernet backhaul performance (speed and/or reliablity) to connect (via ethernet) my two RBS50 satellites directly to the RBR50 or to the 16 port Netgear Switch? Is one method measurably superior to the other?SolvedOrbi dropping internet connection
So my Orbi keeps dropping internet connection with my Amazon TV via Ethernet but WiFi remains working. I have to reboot Amazon TV to have it reconnect to the Orbi. Both Orbi and Amazon TV have most recent firmware update. My internet is fiber and up to 1gbps speed. So I have the Ethernet cable directly from wall into Orbi and another cable from Orbi into Amazon TV. Any ideas why it keeps dropping internet to my Amazon TV?RBS50 How to extend to a shed
Hi Have an Orbi RBK50 and RBS50 and need to connect a wired IP Camera by ethernet to an extender of some sort. The Camera is in a remote shed (25m away from the Orbi Satellite 40m from the Orbi Router) on a different power ring so cant use a powerline extender. I am using a Netgear extender at the moment but it keeps dropping out. When it works it works well but its not reliable as part of my CCTV system. Could someone advise the best product (extender) to use with the Orbi.Orbi vs. hardwired ethernet
Planning to upgrade wifi in a home we just purchased about a year ago. It's 4000 sq ft, single story, and the router is at one end of the home. I was thinking about going with Orbi system. However, my question is this: most of the rooms are hardwired for ethernet with gigabit switch in the office at one the end of the house. Is there another alternative that would utilize this, i.e. some other type of network access point that would still be wireless for the user in that room? Or am I better off just abandoning that legacy system and going with Orbi?Using Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!Orbi ethernet speed significantly slower than wifi
My wifi is working great. I pay for 100 mbps download and get at least that through the Orbi wifi. However, when I plug a laptop directly into the ethernet ports it's a whole different story. I get 5 to 9 mbps (90+ percent slower than wifi). I tried plugging the laptop into both the router and satellite and get the same result. I've attached two speedtest screenshots - one of them is using the wifi and the other the ethernet. Interestingly, the upload is virtually the same while the download is 15x slower over ethernet (unusable)
