I have a metal shop that I am trying to get internet into. I currently have a Nighthawk 7000 (AC1900) in the house, and a Belken extender in the shop positioned close to the garage door window (approx 180ft from house). Problem is it keeps loosing connection. Would the EX7000 extender with one antenna mounted outside of the shop allow me to get a better signal inside the shop? or is there a better way to get the wifi signal inside the metal building?19KViews0likes6CommentsExternal USB Drive, write protected in EXT4 ???
Ok, so after having issues trying to use external USB disk to backup my ReadyNAS, i did some tests... If I format the disk as NTFS, it works OK read/write. It appears that if i format the disk as EXT4, i can't write on it, and can't change permissions. Then i tried to format it as EXT3, and after half an hour it still didn't finished formatting. When i tried to eject the disk the ReadyNAS crashed. After reboot, the disk disk was not even seen when i plugged/unplugged it... Ok, so i plug it on my Mac and format it as HFS+ then it is seen again on the readyNAS. So, as HFS+, the disk is seen OK as read/write... Then tried again to format as EXT3 and it took again ages to format... (so long that i didn't wait the end) So, i will end using NTFS, even if it's a shame to use such format on a "linux" box...3.7KViews0likes3CommentsR7000 loosing usb connection to SSD and HDD sporadically
Hi When I'm sometimes copying or reading files from my SSD or HDD attached to either the usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports on the R7000, it looses connection which is very frustrating. I noticed the USB light also turns off, so I have to reboot the router and reconnect the drives, sometimes I have to connect the drives to my PC and do an error scan and repair to get the R7000 detecting them again. I've been browsing this forum for solutions, one thing came up which was the file system, I'm using NTFS on both my SSD and HDD so am wondering if I format both drives to ext3 or ext4 it will solve the connection problems? I'm really disappointing with Netgear that I'm having on the R7000 for what seemingly is a lack of R&D or QA when it comes to using various external drives and file systems! I currently use the RN104 as a media server in my home....and I couldn't be happier with it. I have an older external hard drive that when I need a file off of it, I have to get it from the closet, plug it in, and then plug the usb cable into my computer.....so I was wanting to just remove it from its external housing and just put it in my RN104 since I still have a free bay. My question is, is there any kind of app for the RN104 that would basically give me the same file hierarchy as windows has? So that I can just navigate and view the files on it like I do now? (Open the drive>open the folder "Taxes">copy the pdf onto my computer) I didn't know if the readynas would automatically format the drive like it did with my first hard drive and try to just link the two drives together giving me nothing more than the "Videos" folder "Music" folder, etc. I hope this was explained well enough for someone out there to understand what I'm looking for. If I have to I guess I can just plug the external drive into the back of the nas?!?! but I was really hoping to just install it into the nas and forget this big bulky external case and cables.Solved
