9 TopicsMultiple Firewalls Configuration
I am trying to setup a multiple router configuration using an FVS2318N (firmware version: v4.3.5-3) and FVS318v3 (firmware version: v3.0_28) Firewalls to create two distinct networks both able to access the Internet via the DM111P Modem (firmware version: v2.00.31). Currently the FVS2318N is connected to the DM111P via its WAN port and the network and WiFi access appear to be working fine. All web searches for any information to hooking up multiple routers together to achieve the above have resulted in no success in getting the FVS318v3 to connect to the Internet. I initially tried connecting the FVS318v3 via its Internet port to one of the LAN ports on the FVS318N, but although the ip settings appear to be correct no Internet access has been possible. The settings are: FVS318N: WAN: Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP DNS Servers: Get Automatically from ISP LAN: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Enabled Start IP: xxx.xxx.1.201 End IP: xxx.xxx.1.220 Lease Time: 24 hours Enable DNS Proxy: Checked FVS318v3: WAN: Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? No Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP DNS Servers: Get Automatically from ISP LAN: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.2.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Enabled Start IP: xxx.xxx.2.181 End IP: xxx.xxx.2.200 Primary DNS Server: xxx.xxx.2.1 Lease Time: 24 Hours Under Schedule: The NTP server specified 206.16.42.194 is returning the correct date and time. I've also tried connecting the FVS318v3 via one of its LAN ports to one of the LAN ports on the FVS318N. That did not work and caused all Internet access to be lost on both LANs. I've also tried setting up VLANs on the FVS318N and connecting the FVS318v3 via its Internet port to one of the LAN ports on the FVS318N: FVS318N: WAN: Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP DNS Servers: Get Automatically from ISP LAN: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Enabled Start IP: xxx.xxx.1.201 End IP: xxx.xxx.1.220 Lease Time: 24 hours Enable DNS Proxy: Checked VLAN1: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Enabled Start IP: xxx.xxx.1.201 End IP: xxx.xxx.1.220 Lease Time: 24 hours Enable DNS Proxy: Checked VLAN2: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.2.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Disabled Enable DNS Proxy: Checked FVS318v3: WAN: Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? No Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP DNS Servers: Get Automatically from ISP LAN: Internet IP Address: xxx.xxx.2.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server : Enabled Start IP: xxx.xxx.2.181 End IP: xxx.xxx.2.200 Primary DNS Server: xxx.xxx.2.1 Lease Time: 24 Hours Under Schedule: The NTP server specified 206.16.42.194 is not returning the correct date and time. Can anyone advise on where I am going wrong? Any assistance would be appreciated.Solved4.5KViews0likes8CommentsFVS318N with a /29 (five IP addresses) public subnet?
Hello everyone, Correct me if I'm wrong here... but I have a /29 subnet "home business" Internet connection. I have the FVS318N firewall (actually two now, I love these things) but I suspect that these devices are not capable of supporting 5 public IP addresses with five individual internal (and seperate) LAN subnets. Are my suspicions correct? (mind you that this not a problem one either way...)Solved2.4KViews0likes2CommentsFVS318N WAN to LAN low throughput
Hi, I'm struggling with WAN to LAN throughput on our FVS318N. It's a fibre to the cabinet PPPoE service rated at 76Mbps download and 19 Mbps upload. When initiating a PPPoE session direct into the back of the 'modem' we see 76M on a mulit-threaded download test, however plug the FVS318N in and this reduces to circa 55M, then plug in our GS108P and JGS524 and this drops to about 40M. We are running the latest firmware version 4.3.5-3. I have done a factory resest and just configured the FVS318N with the broadand settings with only one desktop client plugged in directly (no other switches or network components) and we still only get 55M. The FVS318N is rate at 250M WAN to LAN throughput so not sure what is going on here. Any help appreciated. Thanks.3.2KViews0likes1CommentFVS318N allow login "By Source IP" with IPV6 address
Hi All - I'm trying to enable limited WAN side administration of my firewall by specifying IPs to allow. I have this working great on IPv4 from my work machine but my home computer (Comcast) only reports IPV6 on whatismyip.com so I guess I need to control it that way too...? I click menu banner Users Then select my admin user (the default admin is disabled and I'm using one I created) and open policies. Click to tab "By Source IP Address" Documentation all shows a IPV4 | IPV6 radio selector in upper right but I don't have that and the spot to enter addresses only has IPv4 octets. My LAN side is all IPV4. I thought maybe setting the router to "IPV4 / IPV6 mode" might enable the selection but it does not. Other Network config screens like WAN Settings (where docs also show the radio selector) give me separate tabs for 4 vs 6. Am I missing a step? Maybe I need a firmwear upgrade. It is on 4.0.1-67 which may be pretty old? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!Solved4.8KViews0likes7CommentsNetGear FVS 318N WAN throughput limited
I have read the other posts and also performed the recommended actions, but I am also experiencing limited throughput on my firewall. I recently upgraded my TWC to Spectrum Internet. The service connection went from 30Gb/s to 100Gb/sec. I also have a Netgear N450 Gateway & I connected my system directly to it (at 1Gb/sec) to test the connection speed via speedtest.net. I was able to get 95+Gb/sec download and 12+Gb/sec upload speeds. My 318N firewall is also WAN connected to the N450 Gateway at 1Gb/sec bandwidth. When I connect my system to the 318N firewall at 1Gb/sec and run speedtest.net, I am only able to achieve 42Gb/sec - 45Gb/sec download and 10Gb/sec - 11Gb/sec upload speeds. I have the latest software version loaded (v4.3.4-2). I have reset both devices and my system. I have turned the wireless on and off on the 318N, and performed the recommended tests without any increase in speed from my firewall. I am not using any encryption or VPN settings. I am definitely able to get the 100Mb/sec speed from my ISP throught the N450 Gateway. But the FVS318N is limiting the available performance.6.2KViews0likes4CommentsFVS318N Box-to-Box VPN with NAT
I'm trying to set up a box-to-box IPSec VPN tunnel between an office and branch location. The office location has an external static IP address so no problems there. However, the ISP servicing the branch provides a 192.168.X.X address to the FVS318N rather than an external (static or dynamic) IP address. The branch is effectively behind a virtual NAT device at the ISP. How can I set up a box-to-box VPN in this situation? Thanks for any assistance with this!2.8KViews0likes4CommentsRemote DNS for IPSec Tunnel Not Correct
I can establish a tunnel using the full VPN client to the FVS318N. Routing into the remote private LAN works as expected. However, DNS does not resolve to any of the names in the private LAN. How can I adjust the IPSec policy and/or VPN client settings to get the private LAN's DNS server working? Thanks!Solved4.2KViews0likes4CommentsFVS318N Radio Channel manual config causes unexpected behaviour
On my FVS318N I have configured the wireless channel to use Channel 6 (2437 Mhz) as a manual setting. However, the Current channel reported by the GUI is Channel 3 (2422 MHz) Any effort in making a manual channel configuration persist fails completely. I need a fixed channel setting as another wireless bridge has been configured to extend the network to a wired section. I have 2 domain names that are attached to specific IP addresses like normal, one is for mail and the other is for our internal website. I need to route thos static IP addresses directly to an internal IP address for our windows SBS 2011 exchange and web site. I opened the required ports but I seem to be missing where I can route the rest. The appliance is on another IP address and works fine for internet from our intranet. Thanks3.7KViews0likes1Comment
