I use gmail to send a message after a system backup nightly. I recently found that it stopped working. I went to google and found that the only way to now get it to work is to "Change account access for less secure apps." Google goes on to say: To help keep G Suite users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing G Suite accounts. As a G Suite user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options: Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures. Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps: Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account. Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. I found a topic here that ended with one of the gurus responding: What makes it "less secure" is just that the NAS needs to know the google password. The authentication and access is secure. My issue is that this "less secure" option a gmail is a binary affair. It's either on or off. So if I set it to "off" it is then less secure for everything, not just my Netgear server. How can I get Netgear to update the system so that I don't have to allow the less secure option? In other words, "Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures."Solved1.9KViews0likes1CommentReadyNAS 2100 Alert email setting for gmail
Hello, Using RAIDiator Version 4.2.30 I would like to setup my alert to use gmail. When I test the alert, I am getting this message from RAIDiator "Failed to contact server". I have tried to use the gmail and custom settings all with the same results. If anyone can help me with the correct setting, I would greatly appreciate any guidance. Thank you for the help... Hello. I've searched this forum but only found posts that were closed (for inactivity) without a solution. I'm trying to setup my RN312000 email service to sent alerts but I keep getting authentication errors. I'm currently trying: smtp.gmail.com - port: 587 - TLS: checked. Username and password are, of course, correct. Error I get: Unable to send email. Cannot send test message. Check authentication settings. Code 5008010001. Error from msmtp. I've also tried port: 465 (cannot uncheck TLS button because it's disabled), and gotten the same error. I've seen many posts where it was reccommended to "enable less secide devices", but where do I enable that? I can't find any such setting in my gmail account settings. I've also seen suggestions to add the google DNS server (8.8.8.8) in the NAS DSN server list, but I can't find where I can add that in the NAS Admin page either. Please help. I have two ReadyNAS Ultra Plus 2's and two ReadyNAS Ultra 2's Three of my units are using the same gmail acct to send alerts. The fourth unit will NOT save the contact information. Under contacts I choose Gmail and enter the information. It says it saves it sometimes, but then depopulates the user and password field. Sometimes it says it cannot contact the SMTP server. The information in the fields is identical to the other three units including the advanced information section. All four units are running FrontView 4.2.27. This issue has persisted for a while through several versions. I had left it set to use it's own "Internal" mail server, but recently I changed ISP's and the "Internal" server no longer works. I do notice one difference on the screens between this unit and the other three. When I click advanced options on the three that work, the "From" box is editable, but on the unit in question the "From" box is populated with the Gmail username when I enter it there and is grayed out. The information in the "From" box is the same as the other three units. When I enter the information and press apply, on the occasions that is says it saved the information, the logs indicate that the contact information was saved, but it is not. It depopulates everything except the "Alert Contacts", "Email Provider" ANY advice would be appreciated - except suggesting that I set gmail to "allow less secure apps" since it is clearly working with the other three units.
