If I'm replacing the hard drives in a Raid 0 configuration (upgrading from 2x2 to 2x8), does it require that I factory reset the NAS? I can't remember if I can just replace the drive and then go to the admin page and format them. Thanks,Solved1.4KViews0likes1CommentReadyNas Hard drive Serial Number
Does anyone know if there is anyway to determine the serial number of a hard drive inside a Netgear ReadyNas remotely? I am not onsite but i am trying to determine if the hard drive is still under warranty? I can see the serial number of the ReadyNas unit but i do not think the hard drives were bought with the unit but rather seperately. Thanks JoeSolvedCan't Replace HDD in Bay 1
My RN202 had two Seagate Barracuda 1TB drives in it and one of the drives started to fail. The failing drive was in Bay 2. I wanted to replace both drives with 1 TB Seagate NAS drives (ST1000NV000) which I have. I removed the failing drive from Bay 2 and installed the freshly formatted NV drive. The OS 6.5 admin page showed the new drive in red. I formatted the drive using the format button on the admin page. The drive formatted and the RN202 started the resync process. Several hours later when the RN202 notified me that the status was changed from degraded to Heathly, I pulled the drive out of bay 1 and installed the second NV drive but I am not getting the same behavior. The admin page does not show the drive in Bay 1 needing to be formatted and the shares do not register. If I try to reboot, I just get a blinking power button and the RN202 will not boot. If I put the original Barracuda drive back into Bay 1, the system boots normally and then does another resync. until the status again changes to Healthy. I even tried putting the newly synced NV drive from Bay 2 into Bay 1 and putting the unformatted NV drive into Bay 2 but the unit still won't boot or recognize the drive in Bay 1. The upgrade of the drive in Bay 2 was very easy and went smoothly. Why doesn't the upgrade of the Bay 1 drive do the same? I would think that at the least, putting the newly synced NV drive from Bay 2 to Bay 1 would have worked. Any thoughts or suggested would be appreciated. Hi evryone, today is a second day with my ReadyNas 104 and I'm very satisfied of this product ! I have one question on the maximum volume capacity to 16TB with the new firmware. The best solution with x-raid is 2x 5TB and 2x 6TB hard drive? so as have 15TB? Now my ReadyNas has 2x 3TB WD RED and I want considering the best volume upgrade by future. Thanks, GiusepeSolved3.9KViews0likes5CommentsRN102 3 out of 4 hard drives failed in 2 years
Hi All, New to the communities, but I've had the RN102 (purchased from NETGEAR on Amazon with 2 3TB Seagate (ST3000DM001) drives) since about mid 2013. Long story short, I hadn't set up the notification alerts correctly on the NAS, and, about mid 2014 both drives had failed. After much back and forth with NETGEAR Tech Support, they sent me two new drives (also ST3000DM001), and I had to send the failed drives to Seagate Recovery Services (they recovered the data for quite a pretty penny!). Flash forward to mid 2015, and one of the replacement drives has failed. I'm pretty disgusted. My questions - Are these Seagate drives just garbage? Is this typical behavior for them? Should I get something like a WD Red drive instead? Or, is there something wrong with my NAS that it keeps assassinating hard drives? I bought this because I thought it would be a relatively stable place to store files, but it's been the least stable hdd based storage device that I've ever owned! I would appreciate any thoughts or reccommendations! DonSolved
