Old Readynas Duo does not power up after re-inserting original drive
I have an old ReadyNAS Duo RND2150 with a single Seagate 500G HDD (S/N: 1VB385RV000BA) probably with the latest firmware and RaidDar. I have been using 2x WD Black 2TB in x-RAID for about 6 months without any problem. After I took the 2 drives out and re-inserted the original 500G HDD into the unit and pressed the power button, it blinked 2 to 3 times and then cut off, giving out a burning smell at the back. The rear of the chassis was very warm to the touch. I pulled the power cord and waited for a minute. Took the drive out and found that one of the diodes near its SATA power connector had burnt out. Pressed the power button again with no drive in the unit. The power button blinked once and nothing happened. The fan did not start either. Again the rear end got very warm so I unplugged it straight away. PSU output was 12.2V which appeared normal. I suspected that the circuit board of the unit had been fried by the defective Seagate HDD. Please help me urgently: 1. I wish to repair the unit as it is so reliable. Can I get Netgear Australia to replace the circuit board? Or I can buy it and replace it myself if available. 2. I heard that I needed to update the new circuit board to the same firmware I was in before it would recognise the 2x WD 2TB drives. True? How can I ascertain their firmware version if I cannot turn on the unit? 3. If I buy a new ReadyNAS 102 (diskless unit), how can I make it use the 2x WD drives and see my files again? PS. Ironically, when I removed the burnt diode on the Seagate drive, the drive was working and recognised by Minitool Partition Wizard but my ReadyNAS duo is dead!Solved3.6KViews0likes9Comments
