Adding Eve Light Strip as accessory in Home in iOS with ORBI RBR50v2 mesh network (requires 2.4 GHz)
Hi,
I have been trying for the past several days to configure a brand new Eve Light Strip to work with my existing WiFi network which consists of an ORBI RBR50v2 + satellite. iOS refuses to add the Light Strip as an accessory, without telling me why. (It sees the device, but then the process fails with a useless error message.) The Eve folks tell me it might be because the Light Strip requires a 2.4 GHz connection. They want me to try turning off the 5 GHz band on the ORBI network. I don't believe that it is possible, yet if I cannot try that I have no way of determining whether that is why I cannot add the Light Strip to the network. I am not aware of a way to force the iOS device to use the 2.4 GHz band exclusively, if only temporarily.
Is that possible?
Does anyone have any experience adding an Eve device to Home in iOS with a mesh WiFi network provided by the ORBI RBR50v2?
TIA
Pierre
Yes I agree that at this stage, it doesn't look like an ORBI problem. It looks like an Eve problem, and either they can help solve it or they can't.
Interestingly, two more things I noticed: after the failed pairing (and even before), the Eve Light Strip is listed as a connected device under the list of connected devices on my router's web-based control panel, with IP address 192.168.1.5. AND even though, after the failed pairing, the Eve software on the iPad (IP address 192.168.1.12) says that the Eve device is "not responding", if I tap on the "ID" button in the settings for that accessory, it still causes the Eve device to blink, so that part of the system works. Obviously this suggests that there is SOME connection between the Eve software on the iPad and the Eve device!
Just shared these two bits of additional info with Eve's tech support. We'll see what they have to say. But you're right that this closes the ORBI/Netgear chapter of this "adventure" for now. Thanks for the suggestions.

No. its not possible. there's a couple ways you can try.
The one I recommend is powering off the orbi router/satellites.
then setup a phone hotspot with the same ssid/password as the router and use its 2.4ghz network.
Then run through setup on the ligths.
Once setup, power off the hotspot and power on the router. They should auto-connect if you used the same ssid/password.
(keep in mind, make sure to power off other wifi devices in case your hotspot has a device limit)

Thanks. However, the iPhone 13 doesn't give me the option to change the SSID for its hotspot, so I cannot use the same as the ORBI… unless I change the ORBI's SSID to the same as the iPhone's hotspot.
Netgear's Twitter account suggests this:
betalogue Kindly access router web UI, go to Advanced TAB > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings > lower down the 5GHz Transmit power control. This will force the Orbi and device to both connect to the 2.4GHz. Once you have it connected, you can turn your signal strength back up on the 5GHz

I tried this and the iPad is on the 2.4 GHz band now, but I still can't get the pairing to work. I am beginning to suspect that the Eve LS might be defective after all…

what modem/gateway is the orbi connected to?
