Android devices keep getting thrown off the Orbi WiFi

(This was also an issue before the latest firmware)

Our Android devices (tablets and phones) keep experincing the same issue. They are all sporadically thrown off WiFi and re-connected again a few seconds later.

What could the reason for this, and any recommended way of fixing this issue? I've done no changes to the basic Orbi setup, other then enabling Ipv6 and changing the DNS (issue was also present before doing those two changes).

I previously had a Nightahwk X8 where this never was an issue, so I'm worried either a setting or the Orbi system itself is flawed. In general I feel like the X8 has been superior in terms of speed, range and stability. Is that supposed to be correct?

  • My Samsung Note 4 phone won't stay connected. It keeps failing with "Authentication Error Occurred". Is this related?

I would bet it is.   Has anyone heard of a fix coming soon?  This is getting comical.

I rebooted the router and it's been stable for a little over half a day.  Very odd that i should have to reboot after just 72 hours.

  • You will feel much better after you realize it is over. Netgear should send us cigarettes because it used to be customary to have one after you got F'd
  • In reading through this thread finally after struggling with my Nvidia Shield TV as well as now an Xbox one that randomly drop. Seems to be connected to the satellite rather than base. Base does not seem to have any issues downstairs, but the satellite connections seem to have issues upstairs. Distance is less than 20 ft and there's random drops regularly to the point where they devices are almost unusable. This is really frustrating and very disappointed with such an expensive product. P.s. have tried a number of these suggestions such as turning off being beam with no success.
  • Mine is a RBR40...... Updated with the latest firmware this morning seems to have solve the issue.

However notice that with 4 iPhones and 3 Samsung , iPhones always lock on with the 5ghzbwhile Samsung always goes to the 2.4ghz

Follow up...issue seems resolved with the samsung devices. S8+ connecting and staying connected and continuing with internet available at 650Mbps today...may have been earlier but I checked it today. 👍 The new firmware 1.11.0.20...good job!

      • @ Wesb: Are you participating in the beta test or has the new firmware already been released?

  • I have bought the Orbi about 2 months ago and I am facing exactly the same issues. All of my devices seem to be working just fine, except for my Galaxy S7. It keeps connecting and disconnecting about every minute or so when it is connected to the main router. I have not tested it extensively enough when it is connected to the satellite.

My wife is also constantly complaining about "the bad internet connection" with her HTC One Mini 2, but her information is not sufficient enough to make any judgements.

Seing that this problems exist for more than half a year now is bit irritating. I really hope that the next firmware will solve the issue.

  • There are Cisco routers at work and I have no issues at work. My nighthawk works fine and my FIOS  router works fine. It's Orbi for sure. I believe it's the satellite. It was working fine then one day it started disconnecting. I've had my Orbi for about 2 months now.

  • So finally there is a firmware update that fixes the disconnect issues...for IOS devices. Not that I ever had any issue with any IOS device using my Orbi, but the way more apparent Android issue is left unfixed :smileyfrustrated:

My patience is about to end. Finally Google WiFi is available in Europe as well. I will soon give it a try.

  • Same problem. S8 keeps dropping connection after 5 minutes on Wifi. Do not want to return it but Netgear leaves no option.

Go into  "Settings" on your phone then selected "System Update" towards the bottom..
