Bridge mode fog Comcast

Does my Comcast modem need to be put into bridge mode ? Right now it’s not and it’s picking up devices in my home the Orbi should be pickup. I was told by Netgear personnel to remove the bridge mode of the Comcast modem, and since then I’ve been having problems. Right now the Orbi is in AP mode and picking up devices so is the Comcast modem picking up devices. I just need to know if I need to put the Comcast modem back in bridge mode to let the Orby do its job as a router with the satellites. Thank you.

At least one of the devices must be in router mode, either the Comcast, the Orbi, or both.

The network simply cannot work correctly with no router at all.

Two routers will work, but can lead to problems in specific situations: https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Many Orbi features are available only when the Orbi is in router mode, so most customers tend to put their ISP (Comcast) modem into bridge mode and let the Orbi be the only router.

Ok, I now will put the ISP Comcast modem in bridge mode and put the Orbi back in router mode. This should fixe the problem I am having. I don’t understand why I was told to take the ISP modem out of bridge mode ? I was screwed from day one, thanks netgear.

If you had told me that the Orbi was in AP mode and you wanted it that way, I  would have told you that the Comcast device had to be in router mode. I sense a miscommunication.

Glad that it is working for you now.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
