Cannot Update Orbi RBW30 Firmware to 2.3.5.6

Looking to update the firware for my satelites (both RBW30) from 2.3.0.4 to the lastest version - 2.3.5.6. The web interface shows "downloading firmware" for both using the auto-check but then suddenly switches over to "no new version available".

On the Orbi RBW30 page however, the latest firware is 2.3.5.6. I downloaded the .zip file and tried the manual update using the following file: RBW30-V2.3.5.6_1.0.8.chk

But when I go to upload it, I get the following error:

"Please assign the correct file. The format is *.img"

The other manual update options for each individual satelite require passwords since they are on different internal IP's. I have no idea what these are since I never set them.

Can someone please suggest a fix? Thanks.

    1. An Orbi system has only one Administrative password.  Satellites pick up the password from the router automatically.  Once you get the firmware file onto your computer and extract the .img file from the .zip file, log directly into the satellite and use the "Firmware Update" menu choice.
    2. I think Netgear has problem on the web site.  Every firmware update I have ever seen is a zip file with two contents (a) an information page and (b) an image file ".img".  I have never seen a ".chk" file as part of a firmware update.  Either the RBW30 is "different", or Netgear's web site does not have the correct file.

Blanca_O   Maybe Netgear can look into this?

Some Netgear stuff used chk files.

For example, the D6400. The firmware for the RBW30 and RBS40V also comes as .chk files.

There is even a reference to this in the Orbi user manual.

So there is nothing wrong on the Netgear website.

Correct, as usual.  On page 85.  So, the manual update menu selection on the satellite should recognize the .chk file as what it wants.

How are you approaching the RBW30?

    In your Orbi router, try:

    • Advanced
    • Administration
    • Firmware Update
    • Manual Update
    • Check the RBW30
    • Feed in the router's password
    • Browse for the file
    • Upload

If it falls over, let us know where and what happens.

The Orbi router Attached Devices page should show the satellites at the top, including the IP address of each satellite.  Use a web browser and go to http://(that IP).  The credentials should be "admin" and the same password as the Orbi router.

        "Should be" may underestimate things.

I just went and looked. I can see no way of changing the management password.

But we need feedback from taperanger before we can say much more.
