CBR40 - Possible to exceed 866Mbps?

Upgrading from 200Mbps to gigabit internet, and I've never had an issue transferring data locally. Now though, I want to make sure I can get as much of that 940Mbps upload/download as I can. My CBR40 is currently handling modem, router, and wireless functions. After the fiber connection is installed I'll set the CBR40 to router+wireless only and plug in the fiber modem for ethernet.

Assuming all that works . . .

Is 866Mbps the maximum I can get from a single wireless client using the CBR40? I know the product specs say 2200 Mbps and channel bonding, but I'm not sure if the fronthaul and backhaul frequencies can work together to give me >866. I'm not averse to getting a newer Orbi that can give me at least 940Mbps. I want to be able to stream from my Plex server to an external client at full speed while not impacting the rest of the household.

Thanks!

Correct, it's all that the CBK40 supports. Nothing more then that. These are connect rates between the Orbi wifi and wifi devices connected at 5Ghz AC only. Not actual data thruput. These are connection rates only.

Thanks! If I really need that last 76 Mbps, I'll run a wired connection. :)
  • I have a 1GB internet connection, and just I installed an RBK750 router with 2 satellites and a new CV1150V modem. As soon as I completed the setup process, I ran a speed test from a wired (to the router) connection and saw 950+ Mbps. I then ran a test using wireless on a phone that supports Wifi 6 (802.11ax), and saw 850 Mbps over wireless. The next day, all of my wireless devices dropped to consistently less than 100 Mbps. After MANY hours with Pro Support, we got the speed on the phone back up to 750, but only if I'm sitting within 3 feet or so of the router. Less than 20 feet from the router, I'm seeing 400. Something to consider (I didn't) is that although they support Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ax), neither my tablet nor my laptop support  (Wi-Fi 6). I was told by the Netgear support tech, that the expectation for these devices would be around 400 Mbps, but I'm having trouble getting them over 300 ( just ran a test, and got less than 200).

Based on this experience, I would be extremely skeptical about consistently getting 866 Mbps on a device that supports Wifi 6, and I would not expect to see that using WiFi 5 devices
