Just got RKB53 Costco system and installed with breeze. Have full throttle connection in entire house with router in basement and two sat on 1st and 2nd floor. It came with firmware version 1.8X and working fine. I see too many people having issue after v2 upgrade. It wonders me if should I upgrade to v2x or leave it alone untile Netgear comes up with stable firmware?

After you guys have had your Orbi's for a while, you'll find that you have no choice about upgrading your firmware. The Orbi auto-flashes the latest firmware eventually. It may take several days, but it will happen. I'm not personally happy with this, but at the moment I'm using the 2.0.0.76 Beta (which I manually flashed), and that's working really well for me. As did 2.0.0.74, but the wireless signal strength on the 2.0.0.76 Beta seems a little stronger here. So I'm not really upset about the lack of control over the firmware version at the moment, but the time may come :-).

If there is one thing I could change about the system, that would be it = allow users to disable firmware auto-updates. I imagine that would be a relatively simple option to add to the firmware and the default could be set to "enable".

Trying something different here...my "main" wired-only router is an R7800, and the Orbi is in AP mode. I've put dd-wrt firmware on the R7800, and have blocked "downloads.netgear.com". Waiting to see if that prevents auto-upgrade or not. I can't go to downloads.netgear.com from the Orbi, so I know that URL is blocked. In fact, to download firmware manually from Netgear, I have to remove the restriction in the R7800 firmware settings and then put it back when I'm done. So I think that there's a chance...

Outstanding idea which, I suspect, will eliminate those auto-updates.
Regardless, Netgear needs to include a "disable" option since many users, including myself, have Orbi configured as a router.

Orbi satellite drops connections all the time. I came to this thread because I’m looking for a better alternative.

I was also searching for s better alternative to my orbi and was searching reviews for EERO and found this post. If you're considering Orbi, look at this post with the latest firmware that netgear auto update to everyone router. You cannot even downgrade to a stable firmware that you want, it will always update to the latest. My $350 orbi is a piece of crap that's acts as a book stand now.
