FTP connections

I am trying to connect to a FTP site as

https://ftp.abc.com from a browser (like Chrome, Brave, Internet Explorer).

All the browsers says "This site can’t be reached".

When I connect directly to my cable modem and go to the FTP site, it works fine.

So the Router is blocking it somehow.

Can someone please help me getting that to work.

I have my Router IP address as 20.20.1.1

My Cable Modem is 192.168.1.1

What setting should I do to get this working?

I have read/reserched all day and do not know what is happening.

  • Are you sure thats a valid URL? Doesn't work for me either. www.abc.com works.

Also ftp://ftp.abc.com is not valid either.

If your ISP Modem has a built in router already, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

      I apologise - I should have mentioned.

The FTP address I put in was a sample one.  Not an accurate one.

      it is something like https://ftp.deloitte***.com

Now, I have another computer which is VPNed to different company and I can connect using that.

Without VPN, it does not connect.

My Spectrum Cable Modem does not have Wifi.  Just a plain Modem.

I am able to connnect to any other FTP sites, like

        https://ftp.highmark.com etc

I am unable to connect to

        https://ftp.deloittefed.com

Is there any place in the router that blocks this connection?

I do not see it in the Blocked Sites.

I have disabled the Netgear Armour as well, still not able to connect.

I am confused about this modem.

If the IP address of the modem is 192.168.1.1, that indicates that it is a "modem/router".

Netgear's modem routers usually do 192.168.0.1 while routers are 192.168.1.1.

So, unless someone set it to that IP address, heaven only knows what this modem is.

Netgear ships cable modems with 192.168.100.1.

I made a mistake in IP Addresses here.

The Spectrum Cable Modem is showing my ISP IP Address and not 198.xxxxxxxx

The Orbi Router, I have configured with 20.20.1.1 for LAN to start and not the Factory 198 one.

I am able to connect to all FTP sites and except the https://ftp.deloittefed.com

When I disconnect the Orbi and connect directly to the Cable Modem, I am able to connect to https://ftp.deloittefed.com

So, somewhere, Orbi might have marked it as invalid/blocked which I do not see.

I also disabled the Netgear Armour and it did not help.

By the way, I was able to connect to https://ftp.deloittefed.com up until last Friday.  All of a sudden it stopped working for me.

I apologize for the wrong reporting of Cable Model IP address.
