new internet service

hello, i just switched internet providers, and was wondering do i need to factory reset my orbi.  not sure if it matters, but we went from dsl to cable.  im not using the service providers cable modem, i purchased the Netgear Nighthawk CM1100.

  • Shouldn't have to but it might make install/setup go faster depending on how you had everything setup prior.

    Some dsl devices were modem/router combo devices. Or require the orbi had specific settings for the internet connections. 

    You can go in and make sure the orbi is in router mode and that the internet settings are set properly. 

    Or start fresh with a new modem and router setup.

  • Be sure to power OFF the modem and RBR for 30 seconds or longer. Power ON the modem first and let it sync. Power ON the RBR and let it come to ready. Check the RBRs web page in a web browser for status. Also the top ring LED should turn OFF if it connects correctly to the modem:
