No Internet Status on RBS40

Hello,
I have a RBR40 with the two RBS40 satellites which has worked great for about 3 years until now. One of my satellites was having connections issues so I reset it. After the reset the light was slowly blinking white so I resynced it and now its good and synced with the others. My problem is no devices are connecting to it and when I go the Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade they are all on the same firmware (V2.7.4.24) but the status for that satellite says no internet. Could it be defective?

Thanks

"could it be defective" - well, anything is possible. Before tossing it out, it might be worth some more investigation.

(I am a bit of a curmudgeon - OK, a LOT - and it's just my opinion, but....) Whoever programmed the Firmware Update feature on the Orbi chose some pretty goofy phrases to display.  Such as, "Downloading Firmware" and then later displaying "No new firmware available".  Then what the Sam Hill was being downloaded?  Obviously, "downloading" is just another word for "checking for".  Likewise, that the heck does "no internet" mean in this context?

It might be worth experimenting with this satellite.  such as

    • Turn off WiFi on a mobile device (phone, laptop, tablet) and carry the device close to this satellite.
    • Enable WiFi on the device and connect to the Orbi system.
    • Wait a couple of minutes.
    • Connect to the Orbi system using the web interface or the Orbi 'app' and see which unit this device shows for a connection.

If there is a device with an Ethernet port (Apple TV, laptop, speaker...) connect it to the satellite and see if it "works".

  • Thank you for the response,

I will try the Wi-Fi experiment however one thing I forgot to clarify, The satellite is connecting to the main router with CAT5e (old, I know) and another there is another connection from this satellite to a PC that actually works just fine. The issue it is having seems to be wireless only.

Cat  5e is rated to support gigabit up to 90 meters (about 290 ft.) plus short connecting cables on each end.  Unless this house is really big, you are probably just fine with Cat 5e.

Since the wired PC is working fine, the satellite obviously has internet.  I put this down to a flaw in the Firmware Update code. Since the RBR40 product is officially "End of Service", there will not be any further firmware updates.

As long as you are happy with the network, there is certainly no urgency in seeking a replacement.  The newer electronics, cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc. now support WiFi6 (and a few now support WiFi6E or WiFi7) Installing a new WiFi system would help those few devices get higher performance, but will do absolutely zero for existing WiFi or wired devices.
